I don't buy this "you can't have a good back-up keeper" argument either. I've seen 2nd choice keepers from other big clubs playing some absolute blinders in recent years. We're fighting for the biggest prizes now, we can't afford to have a poor back-up keeper.

Kepa’s actually had some blinders at Bournemouth, including against us. Frankly I think Kepa’s better than Sanchez.

Mirth I don't know. I don't pretend to be an expert on non-Arsenal players.

However I've seen Kepa make some ridiculous mistakes in the past, which has formed an image of his quality. Couple that with the fact that he failed remarkably at Chelsea and you can see why I'm not a fan of this signing.

Could well be that he became a brilliant keeper at Bournemouth and would objectively be a good signing for us, but I'm still skeptical. I'd be a lot happier were it not for the fact that he's ex-Chelsea.

Players fail, signings don't pan out the way we always hope they would. But if you sign someone that had previously been a laughing stock at your rival and he inevitably fails again, it makes it 10x worse.

As mentioned I’ve watched Kepa closely due to having various Bournemouth defenders in my FPL last season and he is solid, very solid. As others said, won’t find a better keeper in terms of age profile, experience and cost and who is actually happy to play back up.

There is a difference between a club spending £70m on someone to be their main man and us spending £5m on the same guy cos we need a back up for our actual main man though.

And Kelleher is moving to play first team football from what I am reading. So Kepa fits the bill for a top notch backup. Never thought i would welcome him to the club, but as a very capable backup? For 5-6 million? Yeah, no brainer.

In the context Bournemouth booted out Neto to us for a year to have him be first choice, it's an upgrade

However beyond his somewhat solid last season, he was dodgy AF for the 6 years prior

Even the comments on his madrid loan as a back-up, similar to what he will do here are not the best, putting it lightly

As long as his minutes in the league/CL transpire to what Neto's amounted to, it might be ok, any significant period he has to play for us, I might have more confidence in that hein chap

Barring an unlikely injury to Raya, this guy is only playing Carabao and FA Cup games. For £5m, we're buying someone very experienced who has played at the top level; we also don't have to divert funds away from the priority positions we need to address this summer. We're not getting anyone better who is willing to play second fiddle either.

It's not that deep.
