I have seen this mentioned as if Gabriel may not heal. Have I missed something? He's done his hamstring similar to Havertz and Saka, no? No reason to think it won't heal similarly. This isn't the early 2000s where hamstring tears destroyed Owen and co.

If he's coming back at 70–80%, his recovery is a bit slower, or his confidence is shot, that'll have a big impact. He's been such a key player it worries me. Far bigger reason to keep Kiwior around than any other.

Burnwinter The contrast between the signings of Saliba and Kiwior tells the story. Both were signed at a young age for £25–30m, one is now a nailed on starter and one of the world's best centre halves, and one isn't and doesn't look like he will be.

The process of reproducing the football we're currently playing means eventually being able to replace both Saliba and Kiwior with equivalent or better players. An efficient way to do this is to promote a new player who might become "the next Saliba" into Kiwior's role.

That ignores how we handled Saliba though. He didn't go from back up at Arsenal to starter we deliberately loaned him out so he could play football until Arteta finally had faith in him as a starter. Kiwior was signed as a ready to use back up in 2 positions and he's covered them both well when he's been needed. We've gotten our €20m worth out of Kiwior and then some. You'd need to really unearth someone to find a replacement at that price right now.

Yep and you'll need £100m to replace Saliba or Gabriel if either chooses to leave, and Kiwior despite his merits isn't up to the task.

To sign £100m strikers we need funds. To maximise funds we need nett sales. To sustain nett sales we need to sell players for more than we spend. So we need saleable players with appreciating value in the squad. To have these with less impact to the XI we need to flip fringe players whose value is peaking, and older starters before they age out. Miss the sales window with a player and it usually never comes back.

So, we need to sell every one of our players that were on loan last season (including Vieira, Nelson (if anyone would buy him), Hein, Lokonga, Nuno Tavares), and other older players whose contracts are not done yet (Zinchenko, Tomi (love the guy, but has been a crock), Jesus (see Tomi). And you want to throw in the likes of Kiwior and im guessing potentially Trossard into the mix, yes?

I agree with you in general, but I don't think we need net sales to sign the players required to win trophies. We have to just end the idea that the transfer market is anything but a money pit. It's like a gambling habit, in that you have to generate revenue elsewhere to sustain it. There are no real market opportunities, just cheaper bets.

As I said before if you sell Kiwior you'll struggle to find an able and ready back up for less than you get for him unless you really unearth someone. Its not something we've managed to do much in recent years but maybe Berta can do better than Edu. Its an unnecessary risk at if Kiwior wants to stay and is happy with his current role though.

Let's be real, there's no way we're getting 30m for Kiwior, let alone 50m. Keep the guy if he wants to stay. Nonpoint faffing about looking for a replacement 3rd or 4th choice CB when we have bigger holes to address in our squad.

Bernard Woolley I really think we'd struggle to find someone as good for £25m. Not impossible but its also not the sort of deal we've shown a lot of in recent years. Maybe Berta has something up his sleeve.
