Still have lots of time for Odegaard but he needs to have a serious alternative this season.

Doc definitely, but I know there's no way Rice will be anything other than a starter 100% of the time when fit. But yeah I'd sign two 8s plus a LWF.

Especially because Nwaneri looks quite useless in the middle currently.

Edit: what I mean is I'd sign two new 8s so we can rotate between them, Rice and Odegaard.

Anyway, we saw that the loss v Spurs even if it was a friendly showed that the fans patience has all but worn off. Arteta and some of the players have little to no margin of error left.

The pressure could be sky rocket as early as September if the first 3 games don’t go well.

We need at least an Eze signing as a shield and one final bit of ‘feel good factor’ going into the new season.

Me neither. Arteta's football is ugly, but Alex Ferguson's United produced about 10 minutes of great football in his entire career and he's one of the most successful managers of all time. You can easily win with this Moyes football we're playing but you need players who can swing a result for you. We finally went and got these this summer instead of humoring Arteta's asperger's by letting him sign a dozen more leftbacks.

Sicario2 I didn't watch the game but I think so, generally. I'd bring in Eze to make sure we have enough creativity though - I don't trust Havertz and Martin right now for different reasons.

Transitions are what wins football matches though, and we've signed some of the best transitional players in Europe. One more in Eze and we're laughing.

Sicario2 that Spurs result was pretty much about the pitch being down right awful and not representative of the types of pitches we’ll play on in the Premier League, and also players not being fined tuned physically and tactically

Sicario2 good. This isn't going to work that well if we don't change the way we play. Bringing in a Gyokeres necessitates that because he's not going to come for the ball like Havertz or Jesus. Makes sense that we buy a striker that plays a certain way and adapt to his game.

What style of football is that? There’s an element of recency bias with what was served up last season, but we played markedly different in the season before and even more so the season before that. If anything, he’s consistently switched tactics and tried new things.

daredevil he tweaks more than make any drastic changes, and rightly so most of the time. The system works. Its built from the back and makes us incredibly solid. A couple of little tweaks for our new players and we'll be flying. The big one for me is getting Odegaard to push up and play in the pocket between midfield and attack more. With Gyokeres likely to play in a more advanced position than Kai does it leaves more room there for Odegaard to slide into and create some danger.

Despite running up the score against a load of mediocre teams in the 23/24 season (Crystal Palace, Sheff Utd, Bournemouth, Chelsea and Burnley in particular), the fact remains during the run-in we didn't score in the three games that mattered the most: Man City away, Bayern Munich away and Aston Villa at home (the game that lost the title). The City and Bayern games in particular were crying out for more attacking bravery.

I do admire Arteta for decisively sorting out the defence after 15 years of disarray, but a lot has been lacking in the attacking game.

Since moving Rice to 8 in late-2023, he's been rigid when he has a fully fit team. Gyokeres joining should theoretically see a chance in approach, but I get the feeling he first has to prove to Arteta he deserves to start ahead of Havertz or maybe wait for Havertz to be dropped.

Sicario2 So we have never played good football under Arteta? Is that the narrative we are pushing now? Same team who had nearly 90 goals PL two seasons on the trot is now classed as terrorist football? Out of every team in this country we play with probably the highest line, that means we have means camped back in their box. Is that now a characteristic of terrorist football?

Last season we were poor but that guy in the video doesn't seem to have the comprehension to realise why we played in that manner. We had one of the worse injury crisis in the whole league with key players all out missing months of football.

We have lacked certain things in our attacking play, Madueke will help in ball carrying and if we sign Eze that will definitely add more of a creative spark to how we play. I do accept we have become a bit more robotic but that is just down to the players available and adding numbers to our squad will improve that.

Sicario2 No because he took over a broken club and has been rebuilding it since. A side that even with an injury crisis went toe to toe against the team that humiliated Inter.

I'm not sure why you are complaining for, you wanted us to be aggressive in the transfer window and kept saying we ain't gonna do shit yet here we are with 6 new players and with a month to go in the window and still looking at least another. Now you've gone back to moaning about Arteta 😆

For me it's a tactics problem as much as it's player problem. Last season we had Odegaard, Saka and Havertz out for considerable periods and their replacements replicated the similar attacking movesets so I don't believe the way we attack is innate. In fact the biggest thing we're missing is instinct in that final third - hopefully Gyokeres and Eze solve that.

Mirth it got worse first. And its been 7 years and we've won one FA cup in that time. Arsene was still doing that. I'm not saying it wasn't the right thing to let him go, in fact it came too late but at the same time the last 7 years have shown how difficult it is to actually win the league or CL. And lets not pretend like there hasn't been significantly more money invested since Wenger left.
