For those who don't know the story, the year before Wenger said he thought his team could go unbeaten. Man Utd won the title and the Man Utd fans decided to take the piss by making those T-Shirts, a play on that Iraqi guy who was saying everything was fine as Iraq was collapsing. One of the early Internet memes!

When we went unbeaten an Arsenal fan came with that T-Shirt and got Wenger to hold it up. Like you say next season we need to give our answer on the pitch.

Here’s the video. It’s at 2:05. The reason Arteta appeared was that Arseblog and Arsenal Vision have jointly raised over $1.5m for the Arsenal Foundation, particularly Arsenal’s work with kids in the Zaatari refugee camp in Syria.

What struck me was the reception. A packed union chapel stood up and sang “we’ve got super mik Arteta” both when he arrived and left. Genuine love. The folks who went are very online fans generally, but in that Arseblog/Arsenalvision sphere. So still very connected to Mikel.

Arsenal have won big games on the big stage. They have an outstanding record against the best teams in the Premier League. They can attack in different ways and give up little in defence. Their key performers are into their peak years and are loaded with experience.

Talk of progress and building projects must now come to an end. Go and do it.

Mikel Arteta, his staff, players and the club's hierarchy must learn the lessons from this season and ensure the same mistakes aren't made again. The team cannot be allowed to go into next year without a killer striker. Depth must be added in midfield and on the flanks to maximise their top talent. Fitness plans and workloads must be scrutinised to limit injury issues and discipline on the field must be improved to end the red-card cases.

But perhaps most crucial of all is to deliver the incredible consistency that is now required to win the Premier League title. Ninety points plus is the goal. No mid-winter wobbles. No slip-ups in the run-in. Mentally on it, every game, every day.

That is the pressure on Arteta and it's huge. But make no mistake, he is well aware of that - his internal drive far outweighs any external criticism or noise. Expect him to have his Arsenal team fly into the start of next season and this huge challenge.

It’s people who live in the real world who recognise he’s done a great job to keep us competitive for 3 seasons, while going a step further each year in Champions League. They recognise that there is more to do on trading and tactics but he’s outperformed everyone other than Guardiola over the last 3 or so seasons. We now just need to claim a trophy or 2

Maybe they took the 89pt season for granted and thought we had enough this season. Clearly we didn't and they need to learn from that.

Claudius there is going to be no one perspective amongst a fan base and if Arteta shows up as a suprise guest Pelte aren't going to boo or say negative things in that moment so I'm not sure it is indicative of exactly what the fans think more generally.

Claudius it's an audience that is generally cynical of the online & media discourse around the club and Arteta.

As others have said, heightened expectations are fair and we do need to start delivering. I'm just not for the binary/simplistic judgements that are being proposed.

One more year...and can we stop having these fucking conversations.

Yes we could have been a bit more aggressive in the market for sure.

We also have to view the level of investment we are/were looking at at the time - basically almost the same thing we are considering this term, ie top winger and top/potential top striker - through the prism of PSR.

Anyway, we have no choice but to invest now, and it's absolutely fair to have heightened pressure and expectations on Arteta from next season.
