DiabyKungFu Maybe. It's possible. It should be noted that Eze and Nwaneri have a combined 0 good games in central midfield against good teams. On one hand, you can't have such a good game if you're never given an opportunity to play in such a game. On the other hand, I think it would be wise to be a little more circumspect and less outraged about how "obvious" it is to play Eze or Nwaneri in midfield here.

The idea that Eze and/or Nwaneri are good replacements for Odegaard just became much less "obvious" than it was already.

Arteta will turn things around, he's a great manager. It's been a clunky and frustrating start, and he has his limitations like we all do. He's trying to adjust. Let's see how things look as we integrate the new boys into the team.

We'll probably always be a bit more rigid and structured than we'd like, but that does have its positives – we've given up 2 goals in 7 matches, one of them a screamer worldie FK from 30-35 yards out.

The United game was legitimately bad but everything else here is totally consistent with "We are in the absolute highest tier of teams in all of football and we also happen to be really boring to watch". "I want the team to be more fun" is fine. "We need to 'turn this around'" is totally silly.

Yeah. I'm drawing the distinction between "boring" and "rubbish". That was painful as fuck to watch but we were demonstrably the better team all game. Therefore, we could not be "rubbish" by my understanding of what that means.

A good result against Newcastle is the perspective shift that's needed.

It'll be great if we win, but damaging if we drop points again. That'll bring another week of this press-fed phenomenon of resentful fan enjoyment, and it won't matter what the XI, the injuries, the decisions or the "moments" were.

As for creativity, let's hire a judo coach so Ødegaard can learn how not to get dropped on his shoulder.

Burnwinter this will be the acid test. we have a crap record there but they're weaker than they've been for a while, while we're purportedly the strongest/deepest we've ever been. a scrappy 1-0 loss or 1-1 draw in the same vein as recent trips to St james and things will get pretty ugly

usually, there's a staggered way in which panic sets in with the fans. the more skittish among us will bearish right now. for me, 24/25 was the season that used up most of his 'let's wait and see' capital in my eyes. right now im judging each game on its merits, but he's not beating the most of the allegations levelled at him thus far

You're well aware I'm not Arteta's biggest fan but even I can believe we can win there. Same way I believed we could win at Anfield and at home to City. Like the other games, whether that happens or not, who knows, but he has a good track record in the games against the big PL teams for us. With the caveat that for all our good record against the big teams, we do seem to struggle against Howe and Newcastle away surprisingly enough.
