As for walk the walk yeah we are doing well at this point, but we've been here before and failed to get over the line on numerous occasions so that's why I'm saying talk is cheap he hasn't walked the walk to actually win the big trophies despite talking a good game.

I don't think anyone is denying that our attacking play needs to improve but the fact is despite our issues we are top and look the best team in the league. We have had a huge number of injuries in the 1st half of the season which only further complicates things and we still haven't really found our best XI yet imo. Arteta also needs to make some tough decisions on players but also on dialling back on control and letting them play with more risk.

Well lets see what happens at the end of the season, right now there isn't a single Arsenal fan who would not have snapped your wrist of to be in this position if offered.

As for the past well he has been up against a literal Petro-state and one of the greatest coaches of all time. Last season was the real disappointment where our squad and injuries let us down

That's fine but you say despite our issue we are top, well all our rivals are pretty poor this season so thanks to then being a bit more rubbish we are also top it's not an either or necessarily.

City, Liverpool and Villa fans would all argue the same, and I suspect neutrals would look at us all arguing over the degree and think it much of a muchness.

On the Scholes point about being one of the worst teams to win the Premier League, he might be a cunt but he’s not far off the mark if we continue at this pace. Across most metrics, aside from goals conceded which is a huge reason we are top, we would certainly be towards the bottom end of league winners. I won’t care come the end of the season if it delivers us a title and my celebration won’t be any less, but my concern is that it doesn’t set us up well for going into next season. If we limp home to a title I’d have quite grave concerns that we would be able to lift our game much next year without some form of significant investment, change, or another kind of reinvigorating effect on the team.

Tam I can understand a rival thinking this team is bad, they'll think whatever the fuck they want to make themselves feel better about their own clubs but for our fans to look at the season we are having and nodding along thinking they might have a point is simply staggering.

Sometimes I wonder if some fans actually want us to fall short so they can say at the end of the season they were right and Arteta should go.

I would say the top teams are not at the same level yes similar to the Leicester season when they won. That wasn't a better quality of league the top sides just weren't really at the same level.

And for what it’s worth I don’t think this is a bad team. Not by a long shot. Quite the opposite in fact as I think this team, with the right system and mindset could be utterly dominant. But we’re just not showing that.

Or perhaps it's more the case that Liverpool being bang average and rather fortunate champions by Premier League standards last season didn't mean they wouldn't be a force again in Europe this season.

No, Liverpool plummeting to a position far behind our pace this season is an indication they were fortunate to win the Premier League last season.

What their critics of 24–25 said about them was that they had relied on a handful of stars, and had been notably lucky with form, injuries and moments. This season Alexander-Arnold has left, Van Dijk has gotten a year older and Salah has gone off the boil while ratcheting up his prima donna behaviour … and they've looked a lot worse. One can't really say that disproves their critics of last season, as it tends to do the opposite.

Bitter twisted fans like me were saying this to be fair! Squad depth is part of being a title challenger but I think that is where we failed last year. Liverpool's key players went through most of the season injury free.

Every time we have a wobble the same suspects come in to pile in on Arteta, Nothing odd about this, once people have their minds set on something it is easier for them to stick to that position than admit they were wrong.

The difference between Arteta and Gyokeres is one took us from nearly becoming a mid table team and a laughing stock and made us challengers in every competition we enter. Now his crime is we have got to 2nd place and stumbled 3 times for that extra step. Gyokeres on the other hand has come in with plenty of hype and so far not lived up to that hype. You comparison would make more sense if Gyokeres had done well, the likes of me had gone quiet and when he hit a bad spell I start putting him down again.

Burnwinter I'm not comparing Liverpool last season to Liverpool this season. I'm comparing Liverpool last season to us this season. There definitely wasn't a lot of "the league is so strong" to try to explain their relatively low points (recently) for a PL winner. More "they weren't really that good, but since the opponents shit the bed they didn't have to be."

League’s never been tougher in my opinion. English teams have excelled in the Champions League thus far. Then you have teams like Villa and United who have clearly improved over last season.

It’s only really Liverpool who have dropped their level

lorddulaarsenal And even they are 3rd in Europe. I would expect English teams to go deep in the CL too. Would be no surprise to see us, City or Liverpool in the final. The league is extremely strong. The CL table proves that. 5 English sides in the top 8, Newcastle not far off. That 6 strong European sides all playing in the PL. Of course thats tough.

RocktheCasbah oh I totally agree I just meant I don't read into this the other side that we are some fantastic team unstoppable in getting the titles etc.

If we are the best of the season that's enough but I worry right now I'm going for the title about being the best of plenty of sides not performing right now leaves things a little out of our control whereas I want us to be able to assert our quality more to avoid leaving it more to chance. The recent missed opportunities when city slipped up twice being examples that the team still is quite vulnerable and don't have that all conquering aura.

Why? Not sure who you mean by us, if it's the team I think they should certainly aspire to being better than what they've shown this year, and as a supporter base I think we're absolutely entitled to expect better than what we've seen.

You can care about more than one thing at a time. It matters to me above everything that we win the league. It also matters to me how we win it (not a comment on the aesthetic value of the football). Point 2 doesn't detract anything from point 1.
