flobaba Saw it for half an hour today. Whenever this team has been free-scoring the attack has been oriented around Ødegaard and Saka because they run the numbers on a decent number of real opportunities even against careful, compact defending. My main worry is Gyökeres lacks danger in too many situations.

Burnwinter your animate carbon rod descriptor is to the word, exactly how I've seen him this season. Runs around a lot but how many duels does he win? How many times is he left on his ass? Feels very Baptista on that front.Then there's his ability on the ball.

But I really don't think he's our biggest issue right now. We've been winning big games with a CM at CF and we've got Havertz coming back who has been involved in successful performances.

Issue today was the injuries to our defenders --> the lack of control that gave the whole team and how it disrupted our midfield. If we get Saliba back next match and Gabriel back a few weeks after, I think we should be fine. Hincapie is still really new too, so hopefully he'll grow into the side as he looks promising.

But yeah, still not seeing any reason why we shouldn't upgrade on Gyok when a better CF comes onto the market.

Don Pacifico I think he can do better, but it's the concern that was voiced by some a fair bit before the season.

As far as upgrades go, Havertz has the skillset to impact a match like this (one reason he got my vote in the poll). He's no silver bullet, but he's crafty and creates mess and paranoia in defences while also being able to link and lay off under pressure.

Burnwinter they're both flawed options for a team with our aspirations but Havertz has proven he can add value in most games.

Gyokeres needs to make his presence felt more readily than he does. But that's also partly on Arteta to make it work because you could see he was poor fit for the way we play before the season began.

Merino, Gyokeres , Eze, Madueke, Martinelli and even Trossard all struggled to get on the ball. I'm not sure Havertz would have done much up front. He'd probably have got the ball more because he'd have drifted all the way back to midfield in a game like that. I think he'd have ended up having a similar game to Merino who has similar habits to Havertz in terms of dropping deep in games like this. Our problems yesterday were largely down to not connecting the midfield and attack. If we had Havertz on the bench yesterday I'd have brought him on for Odegaard after around an hour, thats where his skill set would have changed things most IMO.

I assumed he was our Plan B but Plan B became Plan A pretty quick then that got blown out of the water as well.

Never thought it was guaranteed Gyökeres would be first choice, and that was the view of a lot of commentators before the season as well. And I still think Gyökeres is worth investing in further.

Just realised that we again conceded a last minute goal away from home to cost us points.

Not a good habit to be getting into.

Panda it’s football, it’s happens. We also have scored two last min winners. Could have easily scored another 2 v Sunderland and Chelsea.

Sicario2 I only remember Newcastle away. What was the other 1? Man C I guess got us the point. The timing of the goals conceded away from home is a problem for me. It's bad management.

Anyway I agreed with you last season that we weren't gonna win it and I agree with you this season that we will win it.

But we need to win against Everton in the next away game otherwise I will start to worry about the away form.

I'm not saying Havertz would have revolutionised us, but if one goes by his form and numbers from 23–24 through to these two injuries he would've squeezed together a couple more moments. He's weirder and craftier than some we've got.

Anyway it's immaterial. Havertz is still a month away and to be honest we don't know if he'll reach any kind of form or stay fit for a while for this club, ever.

Biggest mistake Arteta has made this season is not viewing Nwaneri as a right winger. He’s been horribly miss-managed this season.

Sicario2 definitely needs more minutes. So many times he'd have been a great addition late on in games. He scares other teams and they sit back to deal with him.

QuincyAbeyie both of them can be true though. There are definitely points this season where it would have been sensible to give Nwaneri minutes out wide.

He’s now a central player, regardless of anyone’s views on it, and he’s shown some good and also where needs to develop. His skillset is arguably still more dangerous from out wide at this point in time though, and there are times this season where we could have used his ability to be players and be a threat from the wings.

We're always going to struggle in games like these until Arteta commits to football that doesn't come naturally to him. He can't stand not being in control, but that's exactly what a chance is: you go for it, you risk something, in order to get a payoff. Not Mikel though: He'll bench the vertical players and give up the ability to pin the opposition back if it means he has more midfield control.

Everyone who has seen Villa this season knows they're there for the taking if you stretch them, and what do we do? We start with a midfielder up front and Eze on the wing. Eze is going to be brilliant in that auxiliary role when he has someone to play off but he's not running in-behind anyone anytime soon. This game screamed for Martinelli and/or Gyökeres, and Arteta realised it too because we had to sub both Merino and Eze at half time. You're supposed to get this right from the beginning though; correcting yourself when you've already given away the lead and they have the chance to reorganise themselves is not good enough.

This was the first real tactical failure I've seen this season apart from the Liverpool game, and I hope he feels the weight of the loss. Games like these are the exact ones where he'll throw away the league with his tinkering. We have a lot of injuries to reckon with at the moment, but Arteta has to do better. If we're gonna win any titles this season he has to show that he can learn this lesson.
