HomeSteak he keeps repeating that "we have more points than any other club over the last 3 seasons" statement but even if true it doesn't really mean much if there is nothing to show for it at the end of the season. But also it actually isn't true. Not the first time I heard him say that either, probably the second time in the last week and a half alone and numerous times last season.

Maybe his stats guy didn't update him that it's no longer a true statement because whilst it may have been when City were struggling in the middle of last season but our struggles in the second half and City's upturn in form towards the end made that statement factually untrue.

Big Willie this is something I saw picked up and it does reflect badly on him. Lots of people made the point arsenal aren't first they are unsurprisingly second. It also adds to the idea we are the data champions (even if wrong) we don't win the big trophies but look at our stats. It's totally redundant as a"win".

Eh, it's not technically true now, but the underlying point is made: we've shown by now we have the material to win even though we haven't won.

It's our rough luck that City have two, Liverpool one and us zero trophies in the past three seasons. That tally could be 1-1-1, 2-0-1, 3-0-0 or even 1-0-2 instead of 2-1-0 without much stretching of the imagination.

Either way there's nothing left to do but get on with it. If we don't win the league in this period of strength it's not like we can say we did win it.

awooga83 it's an easy point to pick him up on, but the wider truth of it is that we have been incredibly consistent (yes, at finishing second, I know) over the last three years.

A) We'd have killed for consistency like this 5 years ago; b) I think he was making a wider point that if we can keep up this level of consistency, "keep digging" I believe the phrase was, we will get to our pot of gold. He's not wrong, or at least I don't think he is.

RocktheCasbah it's more that it's something he brought up in terms of something that supported his case for why Arsenal will achieve things. If it's not true or very subjective it's not going to have consensus. Similar to the we were the best team in the PSG semi those comments will attract people picking it up.

We have been consistent without being the best team in a given year. That's been good but you have to go beyond that not just consistency but something exceptional. I also thought there aren't always guarantees you find gold plenty of people lost everything trying to find that gold😂

A thought experiment - if Arsenal were to fire Arteta tomorrow, where would he land amongst the other "top" clubs - I'd think it's a 50/50 chance that Bayern would replace Kompany with him or it has to be one of the Italian clubs (which are at their lowest ebb in the last few decades). So while he has done a great job getting the club back on the rails after the disgraceful fall-off for 10 years before he joined (and his first 2 as well), it's not like he would walk into any club on the planet.

Bernard Woolley He's not a completely unique genius, as you say he'd have plenty of top clubs interested but those that demand success might be shy of gambling on him. However, if he wins a league or Champions League I can see PSG, the top Spanish clubs, and City becoming keen. It's not that hard to imagine Arteta succeeding Guardiola if we ever gave him the boot.

Bernard Woolley I think any of the top clubs who needed a manager would take him if the timing was right. Top clubs don't sack managers just because someone else they like is available though.

We had a shocking culture here, it was a huge problem. ManU and arsenal burned through managers trying to find one to fix the culture. The managers got eaten by the bad eggs in the squad. He's the first one to be successful at that. If that was normal the other managers would have done it first.

That's completely turned around. He had so many players to clear out either shit or past their best with bad attitudes.

He's clearly brought us on leaps and bounds. Others only dreamed of us competing with top CL teams.

I'm not well connected, I do however come across GB athletes, football agents, football scouts ect. More and more rarely footballers as that's all kept in house, confidentiality is massive now. But I used to come across more footballers years ago when we were shit. For obvious reasons I'd never give names.
