I don’t get the Mosquera hate. Think he’s been quite good. A bit limited offensively but even there he’s improving

FEBravo if you're playing Mosquera then you need MLS or Calafiori at LB. Bringing in Hincapie just means you have 4 CBs in your backline and the build up suffers as a result.

FEBravo he's a centre back but he's good enough on the ball to play RB in a pinch. Quick too just a bit less agile on the turn than you'd like.

Mirth Depends on if Odegaard is fit but Eze's taking the piss a bit. The whole maverick genius thing is fine during the regular season but I would rather give minutes to Odegaard to get him match fit for the CL final.

Doubt Martin is gonna be fit and would have persisted with Eze, but he really pissed me off today. There's also a bigger issue that Arteta can't seem to solve when he starts: you can't sever the connection between attack and midfield like we do. We stick him close to Gyökeres because that's where he's supposed to play; bloke's a second striker, but to compensate defensively we have used Rice and Zubimendi as that hateful double pivot that drops way too deep.

Myles has mitigated some of this since coming into the team because he can turn on a dime whenever he gets the ball regardless of whether he has an opponent in his back, but Rice still has to play higher up the pitch than Arteta is comfortable with if we're going to gel.

All in all it's a good problem to have in the squad; it's just not a good problem to have right now when it's our only option left. Arteta need guys like Gyökeres and Eze who can stretch him tactically though. Given time we'll go up a level with them in the team. I still think Eze should play on the left longterm, but he's never displacing Trossard this season.

Mirth -- Hincapie is fine for attacking (via overlaps/crosses) if you have MLS at left 8 and an in form Gyokeres.

Mirth don’t think this is a bad thing against PSG given their forwards. Pep won the league with 4 centre backs playing across the back 4 in 2024 (much to our detriment of course).

The debate between Odegaard and Eze is also easier once we have other players (Trossard, Gyokeres, and Saka, hopefully) scoring. It's pretty clear that Eze is a better goal scorer than Odegaard, but he's far too mercurial.

MistaT I like Eze but he goes missing way to frequently to be consistently relied on in the midfield... especially when we are playing with a striker like Gyok who doesn't give you any on the ball presence in the centre... Think I prefer Eze on the wings for now but you can't dropped Trossard after his last few games.

I'd like to see Rice-Eze-Ode v Burnley but maybe that could be an option in 2nd half if we are struggling to score as usual.

Panda you can’t trop Trossard in this form. Ode can be an amazing super sub like his fellow Norwegian in 1999.

Sicario2 maybe but also you have to take into account Pep had a stacked attack and a weak(er) defence that needed the help

Sicario2 Yeah I was thinking Ode for MLS but actually think MLS needs the time in midfield so choice is really between Ode and Eze.

The original decision was anything but "robot manager" - it was precisely a risk to keep a more offensive team on the field. Didn't work, we ended up balanced and exposed. But the "robot manager" decision would have been to bring Mosquera on in the first place.

Even against Burnely at the Emirates, I think with what is at stake, it would be insane for Saka not to start unless there's an injury issue, regardless of how bad he was today (and he was BAD). If he's not looking on it, take him off early by all means but he has to start.
MLS. Zubi looks phsyically and mentally fried.

RowJimmy why rotate, we play Palace nearly a week later. Don’t change a winning team (unless for injuries).

Well it sounds like there's consensus among my questions with the only murkiness on Eze vs Odegaard. Fortunately, vs Burnley, and with the other decisions made (Mosquera, MLS, and play Saka) I actually think the Eze vs Odegaard decision is the least consequential.

Does anyone ( @Lukazan, @Doc, @Sicario2, @HomeSteak, @Mirth ) think Arteta will differ from the OMIT consensus?

I'd start Eze against Burnely but pull him off sharpish if he's giving the same vibes as today. I wanna see Odegaard given atleast half hour. What I'd do with him vs Palace depends whatever the f has happened by then..

Kind of all depends what goes on with Odegaard fitness wise too.

CL final is a tricky one. On one hand I fear he isn't the type of player to start a game of that magnitude, far too relaxed (which tbf some of our players could do with a dose of but it's just a little too much with him) and casual for it... but on the other hand I kinda feel like you make him a non-factor if he doesn't start and things aren't going well. Again, doesn't seem the type to come in and change things in terms of the game state generally if things aren't going well. Could come on and score a banger of course, not discounting that but it's low percentages. I dunno, maybe people disagree with that entirely.

I think Arteta will go along with my first 3 opinions, but I don't know what he'll do with Eze.

I think Myles, Rice and Ödegaard will start in the Champions League final. Arteta's style is evolving towards a catenaccio and these players fit him best: Ödegaard is more willing than Eze to do the dirty man-marking and deep defending. I reckon Eze will come on if Martin can't keep it up, but only then.

We're not dissimilar to Ranieri's Leicester come think of it. We have better players obviously. All in all we're a bad fit for a dwarfish PSG, who surely wish that they could play Bayern again instead of us.
