Guardiola is the genius - everyone else is an imitator who waits for the next wave of inspiration from him before copying it. Arteta has always been very good because he's the best imitator around, but the problem is always that he's not going to innovate himself. Even the set piece stuff can't really be attributed to him.
It's ironic how much time and effort we spent around 21-23 to play out the back and force the players to find solutions in the first third of the pitch - this meant players were always great against the press. Then City done us with a few long passes in 23 and we followed suit by signing Havertz - as a result our ability to play out the back has gradually deteriorated to what we saw today (notwithstanding the changes in personnel) when the hoof option became permissible.
