Qwiss We wasted £50m on Jesus, £65m on Havertz. They are our current striker options and the 2 highest paid players at the club.
Sure, but Jesus for £50m would be a deal that people would be excited about for the same player in the same condition right now ... if they didn't know what they know. Havertz for £65m was the reason we were within 2 points of City.
Neither of those signings was particularly bad business in the scheme of things, signing the likes of Raya, Calafiori, Timber, Kiwior, Trossard etc was just as bad. It's the tendency that's left us short.
I've truly appreciated the clear decision to stop signing physically weaker or smaller players, as it's Zinchenko, Jesus, Vieira, Trossard (who's still great) who have most often been out of their depth at our level. We should be continuing with this policy. It's tempting to think we can find a midget gem in the old Wenger template, but it hasn't worked out for any club in the league in recent years.
