Rohit it feels like the Leicester season. Liverpool have better players than Leicester but aren’t a vintage champion. Everyone else shat the bed. United and Spurs spectacularly so.
Claudius yeah I mentioned this a few months ago. this has largely been a season of own goals ala 15/16, starting with an underwhelming summer and culminating consistently shabby performances throughout the season.
Really poor this league season has been pretty disastrous in context and we've simply not been anywhere good enough. Awful preparation for the PSG match the team will be so low and many players just don't look anywhere near the level required. The season is all about Wednesday but if we crash out then we are approaching a big decision on where we are going with Arteta for me. We are a hard team to beat but the attacking quality to go from good to champions we have lacked under Arteta so far and he might have to relinquish his controlled way of playing.
I get it now. Rice is thriving because we're playing like West Ham.
Gazza M similar arrogance back then in only signing Cech and not upgrading on Giroud, and then still continuing the neglect in January.
Very similar.
Panda Wed is my only hope
lorddulaarsenal maybe we are just meant to be bridesmaids? Nearly Men FC? A poormans Atletico Madrid if you like
simeone at least jagged a couple of league titles along the way
Gazza M where? In Serie A? This isn’t your uncle’s Serie A.
Claudius he beat Barcelona and Real to the title a couple of times?
Claudius I was replying to sicarios post about us being the English atleti ie perennial also rans. don diego won the league in 2014 and 2021 to keep his value proposition alive
I know we weren't good and have switched off, but these guys were so incredibly lucky to get even a point off us, let alone 3. By the way PSG also lost 2-1.
Gurgen the combo of being far behind Pool and injuries has taken a toll. Pool talked about doing a quadruple not long ago. That’s ended up as one trophy. Most of our other rivals will pick up some kind of trophy likely but have failed badly in the league. (Btw - which also brings into focus the argument that we are wasting money). There is barely anyone in the league other than maybe Pool who has shown good use of money. And even then, they are being carried by two all time legends who are having superb seasons.
Gurgen PSG bad example as they have already won the league
I don't know about anyone else, but in the cold light of day, it'd be tough to find a more perfect representation of our league season than Bournemouth's winning goal and the manner in which it was awarded.
RocktheCasbah about as conclusive as this
RocktheCasbah agreed. An unfair decision that moved us from not quite good enough to definitely not good enough.
Gazza M ha. I was thinking Simeone Inzaghi. You also need a bit of luck. If we have the two seasons we had two previous years now, we probably win the league. Collapsed at wrong time. 3 second place finishes for Arteta. Like Wenger had to endure 1999-2001
Claudius we need a summer 2001-esque transfer window. Minus Jeffers and Inamoto perhaps.
Claudius 3 second place finishes for Arteta.
Except we've ended up in a position now where the third 2nd place finish looks unlikely given we need to beat Liverpool and Newcastle. 3rd or even 4th are looking realistic now. Chelsea and Newcastle still play each other which means at least one of them will drop points so they shouldn't both get above us.
Claudius Wenger could afford that when he won the double the year before. Arteta is running out of cash in the bank (I give him one season tops) unless something miraculous happens in CL.
Basically this Wed will define Arteta’s Arsenal career imo.
invisibleman18 tbh it doesn't matter where we finish now - even if we do finish 2nd - because we didn't challenge for the title. Last couple of seasons were legitimate title challenges, this was just participation.
