QuincyAbeyie if you have a reserve value for something, and you pay above that, it's overpaying. but you might have legitimate reasons for doing that - like getting work done early in the window, for example.

I think what happened last summer was that we had valuations of targets that we weren't willing to go above. Which in principle is good discipline. But the market has moved so fast the last few years that it's easy to set those valuations too low.

RowJimmy it seems to me that the clubs who win are the clubs who set the standards for player valuation, by and large. Our players are worth more if we win by spending big on players, and round it goes.

I'd rather be the club that goes beyond current standards and pulls the market with them, than the club that gets dragged along by a runaway market.
