Getting the right striker in could be the decisive factor between winning the PL/CL and settling for just a domestic cup or two. In that context, I do not mind taking extra time or even paying over market value, as long as we get the right player. When debating between Gyokeres and Sesko, the focus often falls on who the better player is. But I think there are two crucial factors that should guide our decision:
- They are different types of players. Sesko is an amazing athlete. He would be another duel monster, able to occupy center backs, and capable of holding up play both on the ground and in the air. His link-up play is impressive, and his leap is exceptional, which fits well with our current style that relies heavily on crosses from both flanks. Gyokeres, on the other hand, is a more clinical goal scorer. His movement and finishing are elite, and he has a knack for getting shots off in tight spaces.
The key question is whether we want to stick with a profile like Sesko'sโcloser to Kai's, and more in line with our existing system - or shift toward a player like Gyokeres, whose strengths would require us to tweak our style to get the best out of him. Personally, I lean toward Gyokeres. I believe having two contrasting striker profiles - him and Kai - adds tactical flexibility and makes us harder to prepare against. I also think they would complement each other well and could both be used together late in games or against weaker sides. Sesko offers continuity in our current approach, which is not a bad thing, but it may also make us more predictable.
- The LW signing (assuming we get one) should align with our preferred attacking style. For example, a front line of Rodrygo and Gyokeres feels unbalanced and could lack creativity. If we go with Gyokeres, I would prefer a more creative winger who can make the best use of his movement and finishing. On the other hand, Sesko's hold-up and link-up play would better complement a goal-scoring winger like Rodrygo.
Overall, I do not have a strong preference between the two strikers, but I do hope the club has one. What matters most to me is the vision for our attack as a whole, particularly how the striker and LW profiles fit together, rather than simply who the better individual player is.
