Striker 85, zubi 50, GK 5, dpl 25, and a youth player or 2 at 8m each. Brings us to 181m

Let's be realistic with the PSR landscape that would be huge spending and pushing the boat out. And only possible due to lots of sales last year and minimal spending.

Speedster I think outlay alone is a bit too simplistic though. Wages matter too and thats where a "free" signing like Sane would hurt you financially. We are already carrying some big wages for players who really don't deserve it. If we are constrained financially that's a big part of it.

The talent is obviously there but he's ineffective in how he plays. Most of his best moments are just the ball breaking loose to him in and around the box. His dribbling doesn't really lead to shot creation like an elite talent.

He's is only 20 so he shouldn't be beyond saving.

Qwiss We've just come off a 74 point season. We need a lot more if we want to finally get over the line.

Yeahhhhhhhh... But to be fair, the previous season, we had literally the same personnel and we got to 89 points. When you have 3 of your top forwards injured, and your creative hub (Ode) injured for a period of time (and then very off form for most of the rest of the season), and one of your 2 top CB's (Big Gab) out, thats the biggest reason for the drop off.

That said, we 100% need reinforcements. I do not expect us to only sign Sesko and Sane (if Sane is even a realistic target, i think he's staying at Bayern). I expect to see a Williams-type player up front also. We've already basically sewn up our backup keeper (Kepa) and CM (Zubi).. The club will now focus on the forwards that are our targets... And hopefully getting rid of a few peripheral players (Zin, Vieira, etc).

This is why you need more good first team players. You wont get back ups who are of the level to replace Saka, Odegaard, Gabriel, etc

I'd take Garnacho but only as the +1, i.e. along with another higher billing winger coming in as well.

also paying up front is rare, so just saying 181m outlay isn't really how it works. the club basically knows much they can afford to add to their existing payments from previous transfers.

edit: i like garnacho. he's pretty productive and is only 20. but he would have to be in addition to an elite level winger.

How come you guys get to pick garnacho and a world class winger, but I don’t get to pick Gyokeres and Sesko?

Because that would give us real and backup threat on both wings, and if we bring in Sesko, we still have Kai, Jesus (maybe, eventually) and Trossard (if he stays) as backup up top. Bringing in Gyokeres AND Sesko is an "either this or that" kind of thing, we aren't gonna play both at the same time.

Well, our problem was that they all got injured around the same time frame. And we 'sorta' had backup, but they either got injured (Jesus) or are too young (Ethan) or actually generally decent (Kiwior, but Saliba kinda dipped his form during that time). And Ode's precipitous loss of form after his injury was very damaging.

But if we sign a really good LW, a backup/utility winger and a striker, we have pretty decent backup in most positions. We can't have 3 high quality players available for each position though, that is unrealistic.

He's thankfully good with his feet, that was the problem with turner. He'd come in for the cups and he killed our whole build up and we ended up disjointed.

I said at the start of last season that no team had ever increased its points tally over 5 consecutive seasons in the PL and it turned out that we couldn't either. Similar, a core of players typically go through cycles of 2-4 years where they are able to challenge/win before falling off and then require a fresh new dimension to uplift the team.

It's less about the respective ages of the players and more about the difficulty in sustaining the effort required to win trophies over such a long period of time, notwithstanding the other changes like competitors catching up and methods becoming less effective. Saka, Saliba, Gabriel and Odegaard will be entering the 4th year of their cycle, and Rice his third. I don't think they have it in them to win without a significant uplift in midfield/attack.

If they were able to win without the major signings we require now, they would have won already over the past few years, and even if they had won, we'd still need to make the signings to keep the momentum going and keep the team afresh.

This kind of expected period (in effect, a positive difference function of a windowed count of successful random trials with an increasing success probability) will happen mathematically with or without club and squad "success cycles".

The "cycles" premise would need to be supported with an account of cycle length that factored in squad rebuilding, nett transfer spend, total squad estimated value, managerial change etc showing how these factors co-determine an expected upper time period such as "five seasons" for sustained success.

Lets make a few assumptions here..

Assumption 1... Zubimendi is a done deal
Assumption 2... Kepa is a done deal
Assumption 3... Sesko will join us
Assumption 4... Partey will sign for another season (with an option for a second extra season)
Assumption 5... Trossard will also extend his contract for another season (through June 2027)

Assumptions 1-3 were 3 of the 4 main sticking points for this summer to address. The only other is a LW alternative to GabMart. I am unsure if we are currently working on anything regarding that, but we may be. Seems like a few names pop up as rumours all the time..

I dont know about anyone else, but my order or preference of these 3 would be Nico, Rodrygo (maybe 1A and 1B) and then Leao as a distant 3rd. Any other realistic names that are popping up? Would people be happy if we signed someone else other than one of these 3 players? If so, who?

This doesnt count depth signings, like a Sane or someone of that ilk. (Though i severely doubt Sane is a viable option, he's just looking to extend his contract at Bayern)

I think 1 or 2 would very much be an upgrade on Martinelli, but not so much that should GM play, we would be really making a big step down on the pitch. What does everyone else think? And who are the 'depth signings' that people would like to see?

And lets not pretend this is Football Manager where we have ridiculous and endless money to spend. Signing a 50 million 'depth signing' is not what we're going to do here.

And assuming we sign a LW alternative to Martinelli, that would be 4 of our main needs addressed this summer. Would people be happy with this window?

USArsenal I think this is the right read on what we are doing right now by the way. Lock down Zubimendi, a backup GK and Sesko. See if we are able to get extensions in place for Partey and Trossard, which would determine what the rest of our summer business should look like. Let the market play out for LW so we can be positioned to make a move if/when one of our targets is available, while also keeping irons in the fire for backup plans so we don't have another situation like Sterling at the end of the window.

I would not be surprised if we have Zubimendi, Kepa, Sesko and even potentially Sane in hand over the next 2-3 weeks and then spend the rest of the summer chasing a LW to push Martinelli. That would be my ideal scenario. The 3 guys you mentioned (and in that order) are who I would focus on as well. I like Semenyo and Paixao as backup options too. If we can do everything here, it would be a great summer.
