Rogers and Rice ahead of Zubimendi would be a ridiculous midfield. Complete control at the 6 with two physical freaks ahead of him. Put Havertz at 9 with Saka and Williams on the wings and that lineup is really powerful and talented.

Rogers gives young yaya toure vibes. interesting player, but I'm not sure what priority problem he really solves, give how much budget he'd soak up

Gazza M Don't see that comparison. Yaya Toure was technically on another level while Rogers is much more of a physical specimen. Bit like comparing Fabregas to James Milner.

Gazza M Running power from midfield in attack. He can play AM, LW and RW. He’s one of the few players we’ve come up against in recent times where we have genuinely struggled to deal with.

I think Zubimendi is a key part of unlocking more goals in the team and if we want to score more we need to create more. Saw buying two strikers mentioned above - let's not do that. We have Kai for one of the two 9 slots, and he's (usually) a fitness machine. If we're to buy two players for a single position this summer, we'd probably be better off doing it at 6 or on the wing. Adam Clery did a pretty good video on the PSG tie which showed how much of PSG's chance creation comes (came) from moving around the opposition press with game intelligence from their midfielders. It also highlighted our low our xG was in the CL this season (I think we were 18th) and how this extends into our matches against big teams in England.

JazzG Yep we need a maverick on the left, even if it means they’re a little more of a passenger out of possession. I think the reason Arteta loves Williams so much is that he does work hard OOP but if we can’t get him, I think I’d rather get a true transition monster like Leao or Gittens than someone like Rodrygo. We need a dribbler on the left that truly scares teams and prevents them from selling out on stopping Saka.

Burnwinter from what I’ve read (and who knows if it’s true), if we can get Zubimendi over the line prior to June 1st then it counts for last seasons financial reporting and wouldn’t eat into this summers budget. I think that’s also why we are okay with just paying the lump sum release clause since we clearly had money left from last summer.

Segway technically different for sure, but their raison d'etre of driving with the ball, dominating physically and getting into the box to score are all similar.

I agree Zubi should help, but the numbers show we have a genuine problem with both getting shots off and getting them in the net. Not all our football issues are flow-on effects.

On the other hand, having another Saka-level goal threat ("Shut him down with two defenders or he'll score") on the pitch would give us a big multiplier—not least to Saka himself.
