Point is, we had a poor summer in terms of adding a forward. But even with that, we went into the season with at least as good a team as before and Pool didn’t improve. What happens in season then becomes as important as your transfers - injuries, fixture order, suspensions and referee shit. Take City who lost Rodri and saw their entire season go to shit. We had a really bad season injury wise. And I’ll keep repeating that because if we solve that plus a top forward next year, we are odds on.

Claudius but what you do out of the season is the thing much more under your control. The refs, the injuries, all of that is out of your hands, so you should take the actions you actually can take when you can take them. When you don't, then you deserve to be criticized.

That Liverpool didn't do what was necessary and still won is neither here nor there.

Huijsen was the player who would've let us flip Kiwior. Would've been great business if we could have persuaded him.

HomeSteak Huijsen is one of the best CB talents in the world and when someone like that comes available you need to be in the conversation. Most top clubs were pushing hard for him, clearly very highly rated. Especially when you consider we are probably going to lose 3 defenders this window. We'd probably recovered a chunk of this fee on selling Kiwior and Zinchenko.

Doesn't mean we won't be in for attacking players.

Also while Huijsen is talented he's not generational ffs. We need to fill gaps in our starting XI and he's 100% not starting for us.

Just because we are interested in someone (according to the papers at least) does not mean we are signing them.

I guess i am confused why so many of you guys seem to think 'Arsenal is interested in xxxxxxx' on people's X pages (or wherever) automatically makes you think we are focused on that player shunning interest in all other players. The transfer season doesnt even start for another week and pretty much no one has been a confirmed signing anywhere other than the odd player like Jorginho or TAA (because their clubs are allowing them to leave early).

Getting upset or annoyed because we are 'linked' with X or Y player at this time is really pointless.

Qwiss this summer will be especially mad because of the period when the window shuts between June 10 and June 16th. Clubs that haven't signed major reinforcements by June 10th will send their fans into a crazed spiral

ITK who called our interest in Dan Bentley last summer says we want to bring back Emi Martinez and would be willing to sell Raya. That would be a weird one.

Huijsen was definitely a market opportunity. A chance to get a genuine backup to Saliba and Gabriel and a succession plan in case one of them decided to leave. It wasn’t 50m sacrificed anyways since his clause allowed teams to pay in 3 installments so it was the opportunity to get a PL proven 19 year old CB with everything in his locker for 17m this summer. Any team would jump at that.

samthegooner He was. But I think it's fair enough @Qwiss's comment he's not gonna come to Arsenal as backup when he can start for Madrid.

We should regularly be in for centre halves of that age and potential as Hale End isn't turning out many of them (unlike, say midfield, fullback and wide prospects). I'm a believer in focusing on elite talents age 18–25 when recruiting for the spine of the team.

In midfield, in central defence, or at 9, I want to see "Saliba" and "Rice" type signings, or academy promotions. No grizzled veterans, mercenary super-subs or declining fringe players should be choking up the squad in those roles. Everyone we have should either be elite or capable of becoming elite.

gyokeres seems like such a low hanging deal that he'd drive himself here if asked.
here must be a reason we're hesitating to pull the trigger. hopefully because we have some other massive deals we're trying to balance
