Big Willie disagree. It reinforces my view that he's a bit 'hit and hope' but because he plays for the best team in a poor league, he gets enough high quality chances that he converts a good %.

Additionally, I think the idea that we should get him because he consistently gets shots away is a seriously low bar to set (probably a reflection of our shot-shy options currently). Yes, that would improve our output but I think we should be expecting more from our starting striker.

Honestly, I wasn't convinced on first viewing but the more I see of him, the more I think he could tale us up a level and free up Saka and Martinelli a bit more. He'll also be a huge help in being on the end of those crosses and cutbacks we do so often that ends up with no one touching it in from 2 yards.

More I look at all the options out there, the more interesting this signing seems to me.

No disagreement that he gets a lot of shots away. But in terms of accuracy, I feel like I lot of his shots go straight at the 'keeper. The ones that don't, often go in because of the sheer power behind them.

Plus sounds like Havertz gonna be fit for pre-season 🤞🏼 so not like all the pressure to deliver gonna be on whoever we sign.

If he's struggling can take him out the firing line and Arteta seems to be good at giving players confidence.

It'll be a different option and help the team. I'm not as fussy as others. Have faith in whoever we end up with as the team is pretty settled and can deliver without it all falling on 1 player.

He certainly doesn't finesse them like Thierry used to. More RvN style smash it in with power and keep it on target. It's a pretty good chance of success if you hit it hard enough and on target. Unfortunately most people who smash it that hard can't keep the shot on target and end up skying/slicing it.

Odegaard now 1st for through balls in the premier league, and very very little has come from it.

Gyokeres would feast playing off him.

I also think his game is better suited against low blocks (crowded 18 yard boxes) than people are giving him credit. He uses his body well, knows where the goal is, and can create for himself from loose balls.

I'm highly skeptical of this stat. Does this include all the passes that are played between the defenders and set up the wide player for a cross on the outside? Because he sets up Bukayo with those a lot.

For me, I always took the term 'through-ball' to mean that the player gets in behind the defence and 'through on goal'. And I really don't think Odeagaard manages to pull those off with any regularity. That's why Merino's in the last few games were so eye-catching for me.

Right my favoured list is evolving

Garcia - incredible keeper. Potential to displace Raya let alone be back up

Huijsen - cultured giant. Need him for depth in the centreback area and to insure against Saliba being absent

Zubimendi - makes too much sense to replace Jorgi and Partey

Nico Williams - he’s that powerful maverick we need.

Sancet - Arteta’s blueprint attacking midfielder.

Sesko - need that fuck off insane pace and power to give us another way of hurting the opposition.

Make room for these by releasing/selling:-

Tomiyasu - nothing but a liability due to his poor availability

Zinchenko - frees wages and could command an okay fee

Tavares - might get a decent sum for him. Must have his admirers in Italy

Tierney - time’s up

Jorgi - take his wages off the bill

Partey - like his play style but time to move on. He’s ageing and it’s starting to show

Trossard - won’t get much game time should that left winger come in

Probably a few out on loan I’ve forgotten about to add to this

lorddulaarsenal I like this list but I'm also skeptical of Sesko. I just haven't seen a lot of evidence of his supposed breakaway pace. He can certainly move well for a big guy but I'm not sure if he's that much faster than someone like Havertz - he just makes better striker runs in behind.

I think if we decide to keep Kiwior, we shouldn't move for Huijsen. That move should only be dependent on if Kiwior leaves. I am definitely on board with bringing in two midfielders this summer though - a controller and a more technical, attacking profile like Sancet. I didn't realize how tall he is too - 6'2" so he would fit right into Arteta's wheelhouse.

I think I'd go: Garcia/Zubimendi/Sancet/Williams/Gyokeres although I still think that's probably a bit out of our realistic realm in terms of spend with Sancet's release clause at 80m euros.

flobaba Feel like we need to see one of these videos for all our other striker targets and that'd be helpful. Something tells me it wouldn't be much better viewing for Šeško or Ekitike.

One thing that stands out is that Gyökeres doesn't lack for stature, strength or speed, he's got quick feet for a big guy too.

In that whole reel there seem to be almost no chances or shots that emerge from a low compact block or a set piece which is not at all how Arsenal ends up playing or what our challenges are in the Premier League.

Currently Gyökeres is usually getting his chances facing the goal moving with ball at feet, with a certain amount of space and against an average level of defensive tracking below that found in England.

Reminds me a bit of Nicklas Bendtner in that sense, but he looks like more of an athlete and professional.

Burnwinter Speaking of Lord Bendtner, I read his biography a few days ago. Against all expectation it was actually quite excellent. Very unlike any footballer book - no sugar coating, no happy endings, just existentialist misery.

Gurgen Sort of doesn't surprise me, his whole life seemed a bit self-aware and self-defeating, I'd compare him to Hamlet jokingly, but reading up on him he seems to have even turned his self-destructive rockstar bit into a daytime TV celebrity routine.

But more to the point, it's easy to remember how he often struggled to get a shot off ball at feet unless he had ample time to trundle round and get head up facing goal.
