CPM It's insane to me that we haven’t upgraded on him yet, and it’s honestly the main reason I’m so opposed to the Madueke deal. If Martinelli were killing it on the left wing, I’d have a completely different take on the Madueke signing (I still wouldn’t love it, but I’d get it to an extent). But with the current situation, it just doesn’t add up for me.

That play was a completely unremarkable sequence of events. Rafael Leao had a number of transition opportunities where he did less, for example.

Havertz should have done better in that sequence mainly. A real striker would have attacked the box, not tried to overlap on the outside. Bloke gets a completely unmarked run at their penalty area and he wastes it because he has no instincts.

Klaus Havertz makes exactly the right run an attacking midfielder should. Unfortunately he’s a number 9 in this setup.

But even if Havertz got the ball, who could he play it to? Saka was outnumbered 4 to 1.

Klaus I think he makes the right run, if he runs into the box there is a CB there waiting for him and that midfielder probably tracks him as well. If Martinelli spots him overlapping he either has a shot but the angle is tight or Saka has a great chance for the tap in. The whole chance comes about from great play by Havertz in the first place.

Winning a corner? That's a 3-on-3 break served to him on a platter, you need to make more of that. He ran straight at Tomori and fired a weak shot off his shins. Either hit Kai on the overlap or dribble to give yourself the space/angle for a proper shot. And this is typical for him. We want to win the Premier League, this cannot be our starting LW.

What percentage of 3-on-3 breaks do you think result in a goal?

This is a nice thing about xG. You can listen to a commentator say something like "He absolutely HAS to score that" and then you look it up and the xG is 0.3 or something. ¯\(ツ)/¯

DiabyKungFu I didn't say he has to score, I said he has to make more of that situation. He passed up a perfectly valid overlap and didn't bother the defenders one bit. Look at the invention of Nwaneri today and then try to tell me this is good enough from a starting XI attacker.

CPM like I said, the only way you justify taking the least productive option there is if you somehow squeeze the ball through and get your shot on target/score the goal. Havertz made the tackle that presented the chance. Then he busted his ass making the run to give you a better option.

And then you go on and "win a corner".

Issokay. Maybe when we sign Eze, it will unlock his brain.

Basic decision making. The defender is stuck on you, you have the overlap on all day for the cut back to Saka. You've been in that scenario in training like a billion times in your career. Only way you justify not making the pass is if you score. He didn't even get his shot on target.

He does shit like that in actual games too.

Not saying Noni's the answer (I've heard he can be selfish af as well), but hey hey, ho ho, Martinelli has got to go.

flobaba its very funny that you are so high on Madueke but this sequence annoys you so much. Gonna be a fun season watching you defend Madueke doing this even more than Martinelli does it.

He had one or two good runs while he was on. I acknowledge that. But that scenario was a poor decision, and is a standard Martinelli level move.
