Speedster I feel that if they're born small they should at least learn to headbutt opponents in the groin, otherwise what's the point of them?
Really though, the few young talents who are truly exceptional will bulldoze their way through if given a fair chance. And that was José's flaw: never giving them a chance. In general it's the other way around: they get way too many chances to disappoint. The absolute majority of top talents will never transition into actual top players (and I'm talking about being good enough to help a team win trophies, not about hammering out a decent career at West Ham like Bowen or whatever).
It's easy to get stuck in a sunk cost fallacy where the huge transfer outlays means you spend years hoping that they're going to be good enough to produce one or two top seasons eventually, instead of just buying a player who can do it here and now. That's one easy way to go trophyless for six years while spending more money than anyone else in Premier League, for instance.
