Shake my fucking head. Some of us are just maddeningly stubborn.

Gyökeres is top class. If he flops here, he flops (he won't). But we're getting Europe's hottest striker for basically peanuts. It's a no brainer, maybe even an anti-brainer. You'd have to actively want to sabotage this club to not want to do this deal.

And that is my opinion. Can't tell me I'm wrong, because that's impossible. 🙃

He did that in only 4 months as a makeshift striker as well. Gyok is gonna eat here. No doubt in my mind.

I think with Sesko, how many fans would actually have heard of him let alone want him here if we weren’t linked with him? I’m guessing no one. Watching all the YouTube scout videos shows him as a player who looks to be good.
Gyokeres is quite an obvious talent being the top scorer in Europe, let’s hope he can translate that here for Arsenal.

Big Willie It doesn't always scale up like that. Lacazette would probably score goals for us as well but I wouldn't bank on him scoring more than 15 league goals even at his peak. I look at us being linked to someone like Eze and that excites me, I look at the weaknesses in our team and someone like Eze addresses those. I don't see that in Gyokeres, if he was coming cheap I'd probably not be that bothered but this is an expensive deal and if it goes wrong we are stuck with someone who will be 30 soon and have poor resale value.

samthegooner That dude absolutely sucks. I've never seen such a huge ego for someone who has consistently gotten things wrong. Blocked him a couple of years ago and it was a great decision.

I blocked him too and I'm usually very tolerant of twitter rubbish.
He's an agenda driven nutcase, probably had the time of his life last season because of his anti-Odegaard agenda.

I would've rather Sesko than Gyok, but Leipzig and (probably) the player are being stupid so I don't mind the latter at all.

I would rather Eze than Rodrygo. More versatile, would cost much less and is seriously underrated anyway. Have a gander at how he plays for England if you have doubts.

I don't mind Madueke at all except for that price tag. We're right to push much lower for it, he's mainly a luxury signing if we get the others. We still have Ethan as Bukayo's backup even if I'm not so much on that hype train.

Asterix So did Cannon Stats but in both cases it's by way of that long term, actuarial thinking. That's the one thing you can't trust about the guys who try to see all the factors: they see a lot of factors that have less urgency.

I'm hoping a bit of early season product from Gyökeres and solid, anchoring performances from Zubimendi will inspire the whole club. Renewed collective intent is an intangible currency with little relation to spreadsheet comparisons.

Asterix I think it seems likely that the club rates Sesko higher than Gyokeres as well, but not so much higher that they think he's worth what Leipzig want for him.

Asterix it's a good read but there is some wishful thinking in there. His assessment that Sesko has all the things you cannot coach is largely spot on, but he forgets that having attributes and using them are two different things. He could become the best in the world but he could easily be stuck at this level or slightly above it for years as well. So it's a gamble and at 90m+ a very expensive one.

The Gyokores vs Sesko conundrum is quite literally a coin toss. It could go either way and I don't envy the person at the club who's staking their reputation on the decision.

We had a similar decision a few years ago with Jesus vs Isak and went for the sure(ish) thing in Jesus. It didn't pan out and Isak exploded. Could happen here (or not), and it's almost impossible to tell. The club invest millions on analytics and scouting so they are best placed to make an informed decision. It feels like they might have prefered Sesko but were priced out. Then again they also wanted Mudryk and were priced out so it might not be a bad thing.

Ultimately, unless you're buying a sure thing, there will always be risk and (for me) Gyokores is an acceptable risk. If he flops (and Sesko explodes), I'd find it hard to blame the club. I genuinely think it's a 50:50 and it'll be interesting to see how the cards fall over the next couple of seasons.

The big thing about the Gyokeres signing is how good he is within the box. Arteta has said numerous times about the need to be effective in both boxes. We fell short on the attacking front in that area last season. We only really had Merino who was clinical

For Arsenal to sign Madueke, Chelsea will want in excess of £50m. The club believe the current market justifies such a figure given West Ham’s valuation of Kudus and Nottingham Forest agreeing a deal worth an initial £52m for Anthony Elanga with Newcastle.

Other players for the left-wing spot remain under discussion. Arsenal have undertaken significant background work on Rodrygo, and have held preliminary talks about a possible move. Anthony Gordon is admired, while Ademola Lookman has been discussed, but thus far Arsenal have been unwilling to match Atalanta’s valuation.

Much may depend on what Arsenal have left in the budget after a deal for Gyokeres is struck. It remains to be seen if signings such as Rodrygo or Eze may be dependent on potential outgoings.

Yeah I'm guessing it's leverage myself, because:

The information about the negotiation developed publicly and rapidly when there's really no reason for it to have been so out in the open
We've had other targets before Madueke was ever on the list
We're briefing things like "We'd need to sell Martinelli to sign this player" to cry poor
It's a relatively easy option and narrative to inflate due to our relations with Chelsea club and players

But it'll be a Plan B or Plan C rather than a pure smokescreen. It seems like Berta's approach with Šeško and Gyökeres was to get both players on board and keen to join, then stage the drama publicly to dial in the fees.

For once I really hope they don't bloody pay up ffs that would ruin all the good work this window. If we are only going to sign 1 more player make it Rodrygo or Eze please.
