I don’t really believe any of the Ekitike or Gyokeres rumors at this point to be honest. Pretty convinced we will get Sesko and are just playing chicken to get him at the lowest price. Only thing I’m surprised about is that the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea haven’t gotten involved to inflate the price. I think we wrap up Sesko in the next 7-10 days personally.

Ekitike looks quite exciting and I'd love to see him at Arsenal, but I agree with Sam and CPM - I think we're after Sesko and using other names to keep the price as low as we can.

USArsenal but over the full season that year we blanked too many games I think compared to teams that have one the title. Scoring 5 or 6 in some games makes it look like there are more goals in the team then there are when we face tougher defences.

Yes, in the first half of that season, i agree with you. It was certainly before our team 'clicked' for the second half of the season where we were 'nearly' perfect (that one loss to Villa was our only blemish). I dont think we're as far off as some of you guys think. I do agree that we need a striker and another LW. I think that's pretty obvious to everyone.

That is assuming that we bounce back into form which seen us have an almost perfect second half of a season.

That would be a a bit of a stretch and assumption going into any season, but coming off the back of the one we’ve just had, Arteta and the players have got everything to prove all over again.

Football doesn’t stand still. We need to be improving on that season, not looking at it as an aspiration of where we want to be.

We made up our mind ages ago. 60% of the work being done by the transfer department will be placating Arteta for the way we keep bargaining and eating into preseason plans by now.

Fortunately the placation budget is a decent fraction of the €10–20m we expect to save by doing this, although it'll all look a bit penny wise, pound foolish (to quote Citizen Nº 9) when we miss out on the league title again.

It's going to be just as tough as ever too. We will have to bed in a new midfielder and (hopefully) striker. Liverpool and Man City have strengthened. Chelsea too.

Anyway, July tomorrow so pre season friendlies are only 3 weeks away.

Asterix zubimendi will take 3-6 months to find his feet, minimum. rice took a while, and he was already adapted to the premier league. its clear that the club would've liked zubi and sesko to join last season, which would have set us up perfectly for this season.

Gazza M his role is easier than Rice's.
Can start basic and then expand his game if necessary... It's the others that may need to adapt to him. Eg Odegaard not feeling the need to drop deep, Saka and Martinelli getting used to being released earlier, Rice knowing when to drop to balance the team when Zubimendi surges forward...

Zubi strikes me as a player that will start to boss things from the get go. Uber intelligent player

flobaba I'm not sure it is easier. pep has said many times that 6 is the most difficult position for any team that plays out from the back, and I'd agree with that

It's exactly the role he's been playing for years though. The adaption period I'd hope will be minimal.

Adaption isn't binary anyway, maybe he comes in and is good and in 6 months time is even better. That's adaptation. I don't expect him to come in and be a bungling clown for 6 months and then become amazing.

decent option to cover LW/LCM, but it will be a pretty expensive deal. pretty lukewarm on this overall tbh.

We need to hedge as well in case Ode does not recover his form. I think, or rather hope, it was based on his injury and that he will return to full force. But you never know.
