The old format was stale. It created familiar which groups, which in turn created familiar first round ties
Lastly, I’ve never seen people so interested in a final round CL game. Was in a WhatsApp with fans from different clubs and the changing results had big implications for Milan, Real etc fans. Even our drop to 5th could’ve been terrible.
