We're getting neither so why does it matter

The question is more about how much value can you place on the Portuguese league stats. Not that Akpom is better than Gyokeres or anything like that.
It's a bit disappointing that we're not bringing anyone in but it's the right decision to not panic.
No point blasting on someone we will eventually want rid of like Watkins or Cunha. Sucks for this season but I think it's the right call.
TambourineMan This is largely my mindset too. I'm not sure Watkins would be a waste this year but personally if it cost us a chance in the summer to get Sesko or make a run at Isak if Newcastle doesn't get Champs League, I'd be pretty disappointed. Now, if bringing him in got us the title this year, that's another story! I'm just still on cloud 9 from yesterday - that was easily one of my most enjoyable Arsenal wins in the last decade.
What really sucks is admitting it's very hard to make any kind of signing that decisively turns around a probable 9 point deficit to the league leaders at the end of January. We needed to get closer to Liverpool by now but we've only kept pace.
Burnwinter Liverpool currently on 92 point pace. I think, if they continue like that to the end of the season (I still don't think they will), it's salut and come back again next season.
RocktheCasbah They've had it all go their way so far; a bit like us in 22-23. They'll be extremely lucky if they don't run into some bad weather at some point.
What time does the window slam shut?

SimplyThePest We've been saying that since November though and they haven't. I think they are just a really good side riding a tremendous season from their best player and also getting almost every 50/50 decision and injury luck to go their way. They can both be very good and really lucky unfortunately- they aren't mutually exclusive this season. The xG difference table is quite stunning right now. I think they are almost double the second place team, which I believe is us. That doesn't happen just by luck.
Claudius Sooo around 6 hours left for us stateside?
5 hours
samthegooner I didn't say they're not a good side - they are. Even so, you still need things to go your way, e.g. major competitor A being ravaged by injuries and questionable refereeing decisions and major competitor B having a spell off the PEDs (lol).
That said, if they canter to the title with 90+ points, there isn't much to be said other than fair play.

There's still time. I know it doesn't seem likely now, but as Simply says, it happened to us two seasons ago. It happened to Liverpool (and quite brutally) last season, which is something everyone seems to have forgotten in rushing to crown them champions in February - although I do also think the fact it happened to them last season may prevent a recurrence this time around.
But yeah... If they get to 92 points, there's not much we can say about that.

SimplyThePest I think part of the frustration for me is Arteta and Arsenal need to get a 90 point season that's what we've needed to target on at least a couple of occasions because if you deliver that you would be incredibly unlucky even in the City era not to pick up a trophy. As good as we've been we haven't been able to achieve that yet
Wow. Really thought I'd see at least a tenuous deadline day link posted here over the last couple of hours.
awooga83 I hear ya, man. Look, our points per game is trending up. We were tracking for low-mid 70s not long ago. We're tracking for about 80 now. We've just got to keep the pressure on.

We kinda gotta beat Newcastle now.
TambourineMan Personally I could not care less about the Carabao Cup. But since we don't have a match for a week and a half after it, hopefully we go for it just for the impact that overcoming a 0-2 first leg would have on top of this weekend's win. I care more about continuing momentum than I do about winning a second rate trophy but that may just be me.
Do away goals count in carabao cup?
We will scalp them.
Manchester United refused to pay the £5m (€6m) loan fee Bayern demanded for Mathys Tel
May also have been why we didn't bite. That's a hefty fee for a player who might not even break into our starting XI. Boys will get some good rest after Wednesday and can come back fresh.
Good night, folks. Glad we can get on with rest of season. Nothing I loathe like the transfer window
Fulham are looking to re-sign Willian.
I first read that on the Sky Sports transfer programme, there it was badged as Willian returning to one of his old clubs. Nearly had a heart attack.
pay the aaking price for isak in the summe. job done
Not even a single link to a defender
This window has been a massive failure by the transfer team.
I’m 50/50 on this. One one hand nest time we drop points everyone is gonna point to this window and say we should have bought someone. They won’t be completely wrong either but where we fucked up imo was the summer, this window is hard to do good business in.
On the other hand who really moved this window that would have elevated us? It is a sign of poorly run clubs who go out and make panic signings and all future business ends up being more expensive once clubs clock on that is how you do business. We may have also received indications from players that summer moves were a possibility and unlike city we don’t have endless amounts of money so need to make sure we don’t waste money now and then regret in the summer.
What he is saying makes complete sense but we are one Kai Havertz injury away from a crisis. We are taking a massive gamble here and relying on little to no more injuries up top and hoping our players don’t burn out by the end of the season.
The damage has been long term neglect of the recruitment of forwards. We have needed to do business there for the last 18 months but constantly overlooked it. The talk drum last summer seems to have suggested that Havertz great end of season form convinced the coaches he would be good and we didn't need to bolster but that is a really awful way to make an assessment on a player because a 6 month run doesn't prove they can consistently deliver and if you look at Havertz everything we see about him today is not really new or previously unknown.
I think the one thing that makes no sense is us keeping both Tierney and Zinchenko.
Suspect the bigger issue here is going into a transfer window without Edu or an immediate replacement. By all accounts, they’ve stuck to a sensible long term plan which is Isak etc.
just based on the turmoil the squad faced in the first half of the year from overuse in the forward areas, it would’ve been good to have a plug in place. Of the players who moved, Tel seems most attractive but his price was high if not first choice.
Not taking Watkins now means high focus on Sesko/Isak etc., but my worry is we also pursued Sesko last year.
Knowing we want Zubi, Isak/Sesko/Williams and Garcia - I hope we get a DoF in before march so we can execute.
That said, interesting window. Like last summer, Liverpool has done nothing. United also kept their powder dry.
Only move I’m intrigued by is Gonzalez to City especially given how we outplayed their midfield on Sunday.

Yep. I'd still like to know how it panned out with Edu—for instance whether he Don Draper'd us by taking opportunities over to the Marinakis multi-club empire.
Qwiss This window has been a massive failure by the transfer team.
Dunno about that, but if this was Jason Ayto's audition any permanent sporting director role ought to be a very hard sell for him—"I saved us money for summer by not signing anyone, but also didn't manage to sell any of our dead wood, in fact I didn't do anything we could publicly announce at all" isn't really cutting the mustard.

Stakes are now very high for the summer. If we don't end up getting Zubimendi in and we don't get a forward of great stature in along with him, it'll be the first time we truly look like we're just pissing away league titles.
