Bit worried about how it's been going. There's been a sustained lack of grit, invention and spark about us for the first time in quite a while.

Thinking back to last season, we really did put together an epic run with these players. We need to recover the mental state we were in then.

We were also told because our team is missing Odegaard we cannot find new solutions and has to play a totally different way.

Inter rest 5 to 6 players and play the exact same way. Our entire squad is also better than their ageing home man for man. That's what you call using your squad.

Inzaghi rested Dumfries, Pavard, Lautaro and de Vrij and still stopped City at the Etihad. So he certainly knows how to rotate and use his squad, but there aren't any major clubs who making wholesale changes like that and pull it off. In the end, it was a very harsh penalty that got them the win.

Clrnc inter created nothing though after the first 5 minutes.
We were much more dominant than them. Just lacked incisiveness once we get to the final 3rd.

Team composition - too many players who want to come back to the ball, get the ball to feet, feel it, and then stay behind the ball while we move it side to side. We need a few players who want to get ahead of the ball like Liverpool.

We play too many crosses and everything seems built around set pieces just such an anaemic attack. Even today where they didn't offer that much we just cannot attack effectively consistently enough. It's all get it to Saka far too predictable and when he's not at it we have nothing else.

Looking around Europe and even domestically Liverpool have way more threat and chance of doing something this season.

Tactics

Clrnc I'd play him ahead of Martinelli now that Ode's back. Arteta fucked up by not using him in that 3rd midfield position in Ode's absence

We're a negative team without a counter-attacking threat. We have no threat between the lines either.

Two years ago one of Saka or Martinelli would be hugging the touchline up front, ready to spring a counter-attack. Last two seasons both are playing as full backs. Fuck off.

Enjoyable game. Frustrating result. Shame about the injuries.

Arteta really should have brought Ethan on earlier. Saka and Martinelli are warriors, but they could hardly walk the last 15-20 min.

Struggling to score away again that was what we did last season and it's why we crashed out when it came to the business end. I can't see it's changed much really.

JazzG all our threats were from corners though. The one that cleared off the line accounts for most of the xG.

The only other chance we created was a superb effort from Havertz. Nothing else.

They also did hit the bar.

A disgrace that we lost that. Massively improved performance and it was all us - we just could not break through those banks of cheating, whining bastards.

When you face a defence that stubborn you need to be able to use wing forwards with explosive power and dribbling and/or relentlessly attacking full backs (both to overlap and underlap).

A proper centre forward wouldn't go amis either.

Lots to be encouraged by but we have our January window work cut out for us.

Clrnc we could’ve easily sat back like Inter today. Actually isn’t amazing what they did, other than being focused and repelling every cross Atletcio Madrid style. Inter wouldn’t be the team I’d use to beat Arteta tbf

Watch how they play week in week out in Serie A. Always the same direct attacking style. They literally just played out a 4 4 draw against Juve last week

Anyway this isn't even about beating Arteta. Is beating the stupid idea that because we lost Odegaard we have to be dull.

Claudius we did kinda did sit back before we conceded. We had a little burst of like 10 minutes where we took the ball of them, but even then it was mild, and we created no danger, they 100% where the dangerous team in the first half, and could have been up by 2 goals in the 10th minute, let's be honest. In the second half we had to attack, or try to attack....
I'm more interested in the Chelsea game, we were always gonna lose this game. Inter are just a better team, and Inzaghi toys with a manager like Arteta, there are lvls to the game. Add the fact that is a CL away game, games where we play like we are Southampton away at the Emirates, and we just simply had no chance. A little fun fact about our CL away games under Arteta. We played 7: W1 D2 L4. The only win came away at Sevilla, that one year where Sevilla finished 14th in La Liga. If we look at Arteta and his record past the group stages in the EL, it's somehow even worse.

We always had a mental thing in the CL, we were always are scared, probably from getting slapped under Wenger every single year, but it seems like Arteta also has the same issue. Not expecting much from this year in the CL.
