Either way we sometimes get onto contentious topics but the contention is part of what this place is for.

It's a forum, that is it's an open space where different people from a community gather. Arsenal is the community and most of the rest of OMITT is variation. For me the variation is valuable on its own terms.

* I am over six feet and not particularly feeble, but the one time I actually got assaulted by a group of guys I didn't even have the instinct to get my guard up.

By my figuring we had 6–8 points ripped off us by outrageous selective refereeing last season, sounds like moaning but the absurd decisions we were on the end of in effect led to a stillborn Premier League season.

It's not moaning, it's reality. We were shafted last season. Most red cards but in the relegation zone for fouls. Absurd and clear evidence of refs targeting us.

So we've been given an unjust red/decision against us, and because we surround the refs (motivated by our manager of course), it's justified? If we didn't surround the refs they would make better decisions after they've made the wrong decision, and VAR has backed them?

Hope they all burn. I fucking loathe them. And the PL product is an absolute shit show and will no doubt destroy the game once again next season.

Why are they never punished or held to account for ruining the product?

I was optimistic with VAR because it would show up referees to be incompetent and it would drive real change. I underestimated the extent to which they would close ranks - specially in England but also in Spain.

VAR at the World Cup is a much better experience, partly because it's run less like a cartel.

Mirth the problem is that VAR is also run by the same incompetent (or corrupt depending how charitable you want to be) and hence doesn’t work as the checks and balances it should.

FEBravo as much as incompetence is an issue, I don't think it would be that much of an issue if they actually acted on good faith and tried to always make the right decision regardless of how it makes their mates look.

Even though a referee isn't good, in theory it should be
1) a lower chance to miss things if you have two referees (on-field + VAR)
2) a lower chance to miss things if you get to watch replays and alternate angles whenever at least one of two referees think it's worth taking a look

I also still think it's wrong that the on-field refs and the VAR refs are the same group of people, regardless of cameraderie, since the job qualifications should be different for two different jobs.

VAR hasn't improved refereeing standards, instead it has improved the capacity of referees' administrators to manipulate the measurement of those standards.

Pretty sure all the stupidest decisions given against us this last season got the 100% green light after review didn't they?

There's an evident separation of powers issue where PGMOL reviews and interprets its own decisions. Needs to be disbanded and a new body created.

GooneriC there are probably like 200k fans from Rome or Seville who missed out on tickets for that game, why's the family of an English referee come to a Bulgarian stadium in the first place. If they wanted to watch him ruin people's dreams with his waxed head they could've done that from home.
