Clrnc No matter what players are playing for Klopp or Guardiola they don't change it up.
This is what I mean when I said in the other thread there was a grain of truth in Souness’ inferiority complex comment. Arteta doesn’t have the confidence to commit to that style with the players he has. Of course we shouldn’t have Odegaard Mk 2 on the bench, but we should be able to put out a similar team set up in the same manner with largely the same roles.
It reminds me of Ferguson back in the day with Man Utd, towards the end of his tenure they became an overly defensive counter-attacking team against anyone of note because they didn’t have the midfield to dominate and control games. Ferguson will argue they controlled games defensively but that’s very much the shitebag way.
His non-negotiables have been missing this season. That’s my main issue just now. The passion and commitment isn’t there like it was last season. There’s none of that arrogance he spoke of a few years ago when he wanted the team to dominate. You can’t on one hand set that out as your stall and collapse into an unbalanced and overly defensive shape when the going gets tough.
I’d be accepting of a team that I see straining through the games and running out of gas after 60 minutes. If we die on our feet so be it. But we’re in second gear and there’s no leadership on the pitch spurring the team on.
