ESR is very talented and ideally I’d rather invest in his potential, but the sad truth is I don’t think he would have ever been able to adapt to Mikel’s off the ball demands - and he’s never going to get the run in the side to try and figure it out while we’re going for a title charge.
Sterling’s off the ball work is intense. I remember watching City back in their pomp when they were fighting it out with peak Liverpool and it was his off the ball work that made me realise just how hard they worked to win the ball back when they didn’t have it. The intensity, discipline and aggression he and the rest of them showed was immense.
