Dragan yeah, avoiding Barca and Liverpool is fantastic. we've done well here. The only variable is where the hell City, Bayern and Real end up. I would be annoyed if we faced one of them in the last 16 because they've been so mediocre in the league phase.

I am quietly confident that we can do something in this cup. Our set up is good for European knockout football

Claudius or at least a European modified-Swiss league system. Not sure the evidence is there for knockouts, yet.

Coombs and failed to score in 4 of our last 5 European away games which isn't great for knockout.

awooga83 actually it’s okay. In a league format you have to win. That 2-2 draw against Villa means you drop 2 points back from Pool. In a knockout, a draw means you go to penalties or are tied for the return leg. If you stop opponents from scoring, you are in a great place.

Qwiss true. But I feel like that FA cup game is one we win 90% of the time. Such an edge outcome.
The Bayern result is the one that points much more to where we could improve.

Arteta's overall record in Cups (knockouts or two legged ties) has been quite poor. Yes, he has won an FA Cup but with a team that didn't really reflect his vision or style. Wenger was eliminated once in the FA Cup 3rd round in 22 years. Arteta has a lot of room for improvement in this regard. He has shown over multiple seasons that he can really get his teams to ride a wave of positive momentum in the league.

Rohit I agree with this but for context he doesn’t really care about Carabo cup, nor do we. And in the last three years we’ve got shit draws in the fa cup 3rd/4th rounds. City away, Liverpool at home and Utd at home. Not an excuse but needs to be taken into account when looking at his record.

Qwiss you have to admit, losing on penalties to a team you outperformed 3.2 - 0.3 on xG is a one of the more bizarre outcomes we’ve seen

Any of those teams bar Milan please. Their manager will be looking for revenge over Arteta following last year and they probably have the most dangerous players that could damage us.

Sicario2 They're probably the tougher opposition but overall it's not bad. Quarters will be a lot harder if we get that far, looks likely we'd be up against an established Spanish or German top flight club.
