Claudius well yes and no for me. I think some of our squad building has been poorly planned or we choose to take more risks with some of our forwards. Martinelli, Jesus, havertz and Trossard all have enough limitations with aspects of their impact or likely ability to help us that I think that's something we should have addressed which has cost us this season when city have so far run aground.
I agree that we achieved exceptional seasons so I'm not denigrating that. More reflecting that the luck ran with us in most of those seasons with no injuries to the big players, many of the squad performance being near it's highest level and a few last minute results in our favour.
The problem being that we couldn't quite do enough with the luck on our side to get it done. This season undoubtedly we are on the other end of that variance and it does impact those fine margins. Which is why it's even more disappointing that we couldn't clear the bar in those previous seasons.
It does create the perception externally that yes you can achieve great feats in a season, have a promising manager, a great talent like Saka but you still not a team that wins those big trophies. We haven't been able to shake that for the last 20 years and the longer that goes on the more that view consolidates and becomes identified as what current day Arsenal is. A great history but kind of irrelevant when you are considering the teams that will actually be winning the big trophies.
I get it's tough against city but Liverpool ran up against peak city as well and did get a title and a champions League. Is it just the case we aren't in that class, very good but not quite title winning?
