Qwiss Probably easier for a team to keep this mentality than an individual too.

Lots of football teams do it fairly well. The question for Arteta is: how does he get this team to do it well enough to convert 88 points into 95 points?

It means needing to be back on track and fully focused right after every goal against and every half time in deficit, not after a pair or trio of wake-up call results like last season. Don't think it's any easier than what Federer has to take on.

We can’t be in a position where we are already hoping for simultaneous dropped points from 3 or 4 of our rivals in the middle of bloody October.

The margin for error is zero. The players have to think like that, and have to know that, because that’s what it is.

The biggest thing is that we can’t follow a poor result with another poor result. The run of form last December is what killed us - not the odd one off freak result

Burnwinter I'd say a point per charge sounds fair. City can choose to take them all now and be relegated, or in equal installments over 2 years.

City dropped 24 points season long last season. So there's a little more room for imperfection than that. There's zero prospect that Arteta and the team will give up for the season if that happens, and rightly so ... so why would we as fans? The title race ends when it actually ends, then after the fact we fans say "oh, it pretty much ended with that Fulham result after Christmas" or whatever. Or ... it doesn't end, and then you're the champions.

You have to look at the fixtures. If those games were spread out and you dropped 6 points you wouldn't be freaking out about it.

We dropped 17 points in the first half of the season last season and still took it to the last match day with a scrap of hope intact. There's no saying we can't drop 6 points from four difficult fixtures: it's more about what a shot in the arm it would be to take all 12.

Qwiss lol. That's not how football works. There's such a thing as you know, psychology, momentum?
I'm confused these days by some analysis. Now do I mean we absolutely have to win every game this season? That we won't have games we are unlucky? No, I don't. That I have to spell it out bothers me. But if there is any first five we need to be absolutely perfect in ensuring we collect the three points, it's these first five.

First five games this season we are getting a chance to get our revenge against Villa, and place down our marker against City. Why would we not make sure we get the job done? If you're coming at the king, they say you best not miss. We've missed twice. But we're coming again.

If we are to win the league, we should be going into the final stretch from a position of strength and advantage rather than having to chase behind Haaland and his merry band. We have a chance to actually take points off them. Why would this not be a pivotal period in anyone's view?

Claudius dont think anyone cares about points as long as we win the title. We can be the worst points team to win the league ever and there will still be huge celebrations.

flobaba if you fuck it up it can be pivotal, if you smash it maybe it's pivotal. But dropping 5-6 point in this run is about par and leaves us well in it. We'll have played 3/4 of the top 5 away. That leaves the schedule looking a lot rosier for the rest of the season.

If dropping 6 points shatters them mentally they were never in it anyway. It won't though, we've seen before that they are more resilient than that.

I would say that I realistically only see us dropping a maximum of 5 points in these games. The Villa game was a huge banana peel that we got through with 3 points. I know Brighton are 2 wins out of 2 to start the season, but we're at home and we should be beating them. Then Spurs and City.. I can see us getting at worst a draw at Spurs. Losing at City would be disappointing, but hardly earth shattering, most teams end up losing away to City. Who would have thought that our next 3 games would be against 3 of the top 4 teams in the table (with us being the 4th team)?

Brighton didn't impress me much against United. Maybe when they've integrated their new signings it'll be a different story but we should see them off easily enough imo. They can be dangerous on the counter but we should be able to completely dominate the ball at the Emirates and cut off their transitional opportunities. I could see our press having joy too if they field the same back four as against United. My main concern would be Partey against Joao Pedro. Wouldn't mind seeing Rice at 6 for that

Pepe LeFrits I think they will improve a long the way once their new signings bed in but this fixture will come too soon for them. We should win easily like last season, routine. No way 39 year old Milner can cope with our midfield

Annoying that we have a New England manager. Lee Carsley will probably call up and play Saka, Rice, White.

Claudius well Rice and Saka were gonna be called up anyway. At least we've strong cover for White now.

Qwiss you can see how Pep has just kept out Rodri and Foden. We still don’t have his depth. I was looking at his bench yesterday and thinking we are a season away from this doping fuck’s quality. But we can beat him with focus

Let's just beat Brighton, if we do that much we'll all be pissed if we don't get at least a couple of points out of City and Spurs.
