In the Premier League, the Cityzens were unbeaten whenever the 28-year-old was in their line-up last term, with their defeats to Wolves, Aston Villa and Arsenal all coming when he was ruled out either through injury or suspension.

Since March 2023, Rodri has lost just one competitive match for club and country, which came when City were beaten 2-1 by bitter rivals Manchester United in the FA Cup final at Wembley at the end of last season.

City’s record without the midfielder speaks for itself, as in the 21 Premier League games he has missed since signing in 2019, they have lost seven of them – a whopping 33% loss rate. In comparison, Guardiola’s side have a 10.9% loss rate when Rodri is playing, with his record sitting at 19 defeats across 174 English top-flight matches

I think there are two impacts to Rodri's injury. Clearly losing him is a huge loss. He's a total dick but as everyone has said, he's a phenomenal football player. Not only is he key to how Pep wants to play since he can singlehandedly hold down the 1 in their 3-1-6 buildup but he's also very clutch and seems to always pop up for the biggest goals when they need it most.

But the second impact is one I think they will feel even more which is needing to distribute those minutes among the rest of their midfielders in this crazy year with tons of matches. Guys like Kovacic, Stones and KDB are all injury prone already and are now going to be counted on for more minutes, putting additional toll on their bodies. If they're without Rodri AND KDB for extended periods of time this year then I think they will really struggle. I also think asking 33 year old Gundogan to take on more minutes is playing with fire. So now they'll be depending on Rico Lewis and Matheus Nunes to give them meaningful minutes in big matches which is also asking a lot. Can they survive this? Certainly but its going to take them riding their luck with other players' fitness throughout the season since they really don't have that deep of a squad and certainly no one that can cover Rodri 1:1.

It definitely hurts them a lot. I think our demonstration of how deep defence and an eye on the clock can frustrate them could be significant as well. They'll drop points here and there ... our task if we want to win the league is to drop fewer points. We need to put together a run from here, without Ødegaard and Merino for the time being. I wonder if we can.

Burnwinter I don't think there are many clubs in the EPL who can mirror how we set up though in terms of the organization and personnel. It would be nice to see more clubs just not completely bend over for City though and I think a combination of well drilled low blocks and opportunistic outlet play for fast counters could definitely create trouble for City as I am not convinced by their defense at all and Rodri is a big part of snuffing out those counters. I'd also like to see teams play Haaland a lot more physically. If I were an opposing manager and saw how rattled he got by the end of the game with his out of control barges, the ball throwing and his childish banter at the end of match, I'd be looking to get under his skin at every opportunity since it certainly looks like you can trigger him. As an aside, I can't stand the orc so him getting some additional bumps and bruises over the next few months wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

I think 90 points will win the league this year. But they might just splash again in January. Last throw of the dice before they go down to League Two inshallah.
