Hard to begrudge Liverpool another title anyway. Didn't they have 3 seasons where they beat our points total from last season and only finish with 1 title?

They've also been the best team this season. They've only last 1 game so far. Rather them than City.

Feels a little ridiculous that after winning last weekend we were 4 points back and it felt a chance. A week and one loss later it's ballooned to 11 points and now over. Weird how the scheduling has worked out.

It felt a chance. If there was such a thing as "expected titles" we'd have had about 0.5 in the past couple of seasons. I feel pretty grim. Bit worried Arteta may lose the dressing room if he hasn't already.

Burnwinter doubt he has. We aren’t the only team that has faced challenges this season. Chelsea, spurs, United, City etc have all faced challenges. 3 of the 4 spend more than us on wages. Look where they are in the table. If anything, we’ve weathered the storm better than any of the others. You’ll know when he’s lost the dressing room. Just watch our rivals’ games

Burnwinter I think a season like this is certainly unfortunate but can happen. But I've seen some online blogs bemoan the respective injury records for Arsenal and Liverpool which whilst true ignores the fact that when we had the good luck with our key players staying fit we couldn't close out the title but when Liverpool have it seems they will deliver it and for me that's a big problem. There is lots of variables in a season but if when you get luck behind you and running hot you can't get it over the line that is concerning because most other seasons are likely to have some difficult in some respect. We are now at a point where Arteta is starting to look like a very good manager but not the top tier who can deliver titles we always find a way to fall short and he doesn't seem to be able to get us past it.

I do think there needs to be more accountability if not this season then next that you need to be delivering a major trophy or looking at a change of we want to take that next step.

Claudius only one you can compare him to is Pep as the others are all new. The amount Pep has won and who he is in the game (goat) that it would be very hard for him to lose the dressing room.

I reckon Arteta is one summer/season away from losing the dressing room. There is only so much you can motivate the players when you keep finishing second.

SimplyThePest I don't think he has. But I think we'll see signs of morale and motivation dropping off a bit now.

The players will know we're out of the league race. Arteta was assuring them we were in it over the past fortnight.

It's a stretch to suggest we can truly fight for the Champions League.

Arteta has a bulletproof character. He won't implode and no player would start to doubt whether he'll show up and back himself to win. But his urging of the players will have less effect if it is contradicted by results.

It's about trust, not love. When things don't go as planned, you stop expecting they will. That's when a football club ends up with the sort of melancholic disintegration that afflicted us in the stadium years.

We've had a dividend from our collective mentality in the past two seasons. I can imagine that being eroded in the coming months, a bit as it was in the back half of 22–23.

We remain pretty well placed for future success but we will need another big renewal of intent to get it.

The defeat to Villa last season and the draw against Southampton in 2023 are in the top 5 of worst bottle jobs in the Ashburton Grove era. No excuses can be made for Arteta for those games. It's undeniable he's been exposed as a very nervy frontrunner in the last three seasons.

In seasons where we won the league, Wenger's weaknesses were counteracted by the brilliance of Henry, Bergkamp, Overmars, Vieira or Pires. We need the squad to be at a level where nervous and jittery energy from a coach is taken out of the equation on match day.

RocktheCasbah the fact that Haaland was injured sort of sums up their season. They've been playing on easy mode. Largely our fault though.

Qwiss Excuses FC. West Ham didn’t have their best player and we still lost. Liverpool have won the title fairly and squarely. Only 1 loss all season speaks volumes.

Qwiss little bit column a, column b. They’re not Leicester. They’re a good team with a striker who is having a top 10 all time season in February.

The other thing with Pool - they recruited excellent midfielders in McAllister, Gravenberch and Szoboszlai (two of whom are longstanding wish lists of mine). This isn’t a team of punks.
