Every time people lose their shit at Zinchenko because an opponent winger has exploited the space down our left flank, it tells me the critics don't understand how we are setup tactically. Arteta has intentionally by design sacrificed the space down the flank to bolster our numbers in central areas. We don't build up in a 4-1 shape, we build up in a 3-2 shape, which opponents are more than aware of and will try to exploit the space down the side. So when opponents are finding huge spaces down our left, it's not Zinchenko's fault. It's a calculated risk we've taken where we are willing to give that space up to give us more passing options in the middle.
Now genuine issues did exist with his performances last season and that was his sloppiness on the ball. He made too many wayward and unforced errors on the ball in precarious positions which gave chances to the oppositions. That was the real issue with his performance, and I'm not sure he will be able to iron them out, as it's frankly gone on too long.
