Burnwinter thats the thing though. When the times have come that we can rotate or have to rotate in the past we've seen players like Cedric and Elneny get minutes. This is a huge negative for us as its lead to youngsters not getting chances which stop development of the players who can get minutes and turns off players down the age ranks as they see a lack of route to the first team. Someone needs to balance Artetas understandable game to game mentality around these things. He isn't Wenger, he works for the first team and its success rather than the club as a whole. There is nothing wrong with that, its probably a good thing for the manager but we need a counter balance within the club when it comes to transfers. The squad needs the right balance going into the season so Arteta can work without interference then.

Qwiss I'm committed to challenging this everywhere I see it. I don't think it's even remotely true that a route to the first team has anything to do with whether a 16-year-old stays at Arsenal or not. There should not be an established route to the first team to being with, because we are not a development team. If you're good enough, you'll make your own path. The reason they move is simple: money. It's only money, and it's only ever been money.

Don Pacifico Hopeless result if that's what happens. I've been more optimistic about us getting a fee of £20m or so for Ramsdale in recent months ... fact is we're having a laugh if we're asking £50m for a keeper we decided to upgrade and bench. That's like the price you'd use to open the haggling with a wealthy football tourist at the local goalkeeper flea market, hoping you got half.

Don Pacifico club want £50m for him and wont listen to less according to rumours. That doesn't seem like a particularly smart play if you end up loaning him out.

Looks like ESR is confirmed leaving to Fulham. 27m plus 7m in add-ons. Not a bad return for a guy who has potential but barely played in 2 years. I think he'll do well there

naz pretty annoyed to be letting him go tbh. Even more annoyed that we're justifying it with barely played when he was available all of last season except for a 4-5 week period around November.

Big Willie its a depressing sale. I just hope we use the money to actually make us more competitive now. Calafiori is a solid signing but we need some one to come in and add something to the attack.

Qwiss no more depressing than Iwobi's sale was. And that ended up being the right decision. ESR is at a similar level as Iwobi was when we let him go.

Love ESR more than anyone and really do think there was a place for him here. I think Arteta finds it hard to trust players of that ilk, the ones who are not quite on it with their press or positioning.

I think he’ll be a terrific signing for Fulham injuries permitting. But I reckon that’s it for him at the very top level that he once looked destined for, maybe he’ll eventually move to a Newcastle or Villa.

Was chatting to James about Emile a couple of days ago and he said this, which I think we'd all agree with:

"It’s a cut throat business, and I’m all for it if it improves the team".

I guess the key bit is ensuring Emile's departure does actually facilitate the improvement of our team.

As I've already said though, whilst I feel incredibly sad about his leaving, I do think there's probably a good reason Arteta has decided he can't count on him anymore. That we can't see it doesn't mean it's not there. Although one of the factors that might clue us in is the work that Martin Odegaard gets through game after game after game. Not sure Emile has ever demonstrated that capacity, or availability.

I get how upsetting it is to be seeing Emilie go, I just said to Jo it feels a bit like Arsenal are killing Bambi. I just don't think it's that surprising and, ultimately, if players with the quality that Smith Rowe has are now being deemed surplus to requirements then Arsenal are actually in a very good place.

Personally I think ESR is on the out because Arteta craves control of games, and ESR plays best in a too risky of manner/style. His pass and move capability is fantastic - and is what draws so many of us to ESR. But it's not how Arteta has us set up as it doesn't suit "Horseshoe/ControlBall".

MistaT and it could absolutely be that as well. There's also Declan Rice being moved from the lone 6 to being one of the two 8s.

Everywhere you look in the team as it is currently set up, sadly for Emile he's not even second choice in any of the positions he can play.

RocktheCasbah Saka yeah. It's not surprising but that's more down to how he's been used than anything else. I don't buy the good place thing, there are worse players who remain because they are harder to sell

Very sad to see him go. Hope he has a great season at Fulham and helps take some points off our rivals. Think it's a good deal for all parties.
