HomeSteak I remember him missing a sizeable chunk throughout the middle of the season, seemed a lot longer than 8 games to me. Problem for ESR is he can either play in Odegaard's position or Martinelli and if we are honest we shouldn't be dropping either for him.

Football careers are over before you know it, he's 23 and needs to go to a team where he can minutes and hopefully become the player we know he can be.

Who knows, perhaps we'll be signing him back from Fulham on a free in five years.

HomeSteak I'm here for the Fabio Vieira redemption season. He's our best ball striker by a good margin and would add so much creativity if he could just find some consistent minutes/form this preseason.

Coombs hope you are right. Vieira has shown very little here since his arrival and its not like he'd done much before that either. Seems to be a lot of hope based on very little with him.

Clrnc well I'd expect us to sign a new mid and then we need to make way for Nwaneri and MLS to come though, at least one of them needs to get good minutes here this season. Its one thing being behind a quality player but being behind Vieira is just wasting opportunities.

I’d trust ESR to have a larger impact over a season than Vieira, but in limited minutes it does seem Vieira can whip up an assist or goal.

Need to rest Odegaard in the Carling/Carabao cup, and ideally in some CL games too.

Off the bench in 28 games games he has 3 assists(2 of them when we were up by at least 1 goal - and one vital assist in a 2-2 vs Fulham) and 1 goal(we were already up as well). As an impact player he has almost nothing, as a starter he has absolutely nothing.

His minutes here since arriving add up to less than 21 matches, during which time he has 3 goals and 9 assists. MistaT's comment is valid imo

Pepe LeFrits in the PL he has 2 goals and 3 assists(rest are in the EL and League Cup). With just one of them being important, as I said the comment is not valid, as he will not contributed much off the bench, or as a starter. I was just pointing out that he is not THAT decisive, and I'm not even gonna talk about the rest. I see comments from our fans, on how ESR was being singled out for not being strong enough in that 8 role(some video going around from that amazon documentary) and thats why he was sold, that he cannot do it physically, cannot out muscle the opponents, run etc...but we keep the man child Vieira in his place aha. But then again, we are probably keeping Vieira because we cannot get more then a loan for him. He will be axed next year.

It's not Vieira's end product or his contribution in the Carabao Cup that's a concern, really. He's just never seemed physically, psychologically or tactically suited to the demands of the 8 role for us, even though it's by far his best.

HomeSteak He's got 6 goals/assists in the PL/CL and 6 in the rest, but he's played more than 100 minutes less in the PL/CL. He's been more productive in the PL/CL. Don't think a fairly innocuous, mildly positive comment about Vieira or criticism of ESR in elsewhere is a good reason to call one of our players nothing/a man child, but whatever

I don't think so either but it's kind of immaterial, the bigger issue is that Odegaard always plays in the PL/CL when fit, there'll be fuck all minutes to give to others unless Arteta learns to trust his squad more or improves it

Pepe LeFrits he has 1 goal and 0 assists in the CL. Ever, in his life, and he was at Porto when he got it.
He got 1 goal and 2 assists in his first season. And the same in his second season. 40 million, euro. Horrible transfer. But I'll move on.

Arteta's low rotation of the XI guarantees we'll have talented, or ambiguously talented players who aren't playing. Every season. We still need these players as cover. It's a frustrating aspect of Arteta's methods and it's a hindrance to maximising on the whole squad. However, he's achieved good results with his approach.

We'll have to rotate at least a little bit more with the expanded format in Europe, perhaps if that works out it'll shift the wider thinking a bit but I'm not gonna die wondering.

Burnwinter thats the thing though. When the times have come that we can rotate or have to rotate in the past we've seen players like Cedric and Elneny get minutes. This is a huge negative for us as its lead to youngsters not getting chances which stop development of the players who can get minutes and turns off players down the age ranks as they see a lack of route to the first team. Someone needs to balance Artetas understandable game to game mentality around these things. He isn't Wenger, he works for the first team and its success rather than the club as a whole. There is nothing wrong with that, its probably a good thing for the manager but we need a counter balance within the club when it comes to transfers. The squad needs the right balance going into the season so Arteta can work without interference then.
