He played four times on the left and four times on the right last season, which is a step change from the season prior when he played exclusively up front, and it's also quite a short sample size. That's exactly how he was used at City, and is an ideal versatile attacker to have in the squad.
He picked up 16 goal contributions last season in only 1910 mins played, which is a goal involvement every 119 minutes (an improvement from his first season where it was 1 involvement every 130 minutes) . Our most productive attacker, Saka, in contrast is only slightly better with a goal involvement every 113 minutes.
So I don't think the problem has ever been his playing, and he's an upgrade on both Nketiah and Nelson. His fitness is the issue, as he's proven to be unreliable as a first team starter (clearly can't cope with the demand) which was always the concern going from a backup at City to a first team role. Returning to a backup role means fewer physical demands on him and allowing him to contribute in a role where his biggest issue is mitigated.
