Joke if it's true, but wouldn't be surprising. The PL is essentially a broadcasting rights company, the only thing it cares about is what affects the value of TV deals. And punishing City heavily would probably have a negative impact. The red cartel clubs should revolt though. This cannot stand if the PL wants to maintain even the faintest pretense of fair play.

Gurgen They are also incompetent at enforcing some of their rules as Chelsea have shown. If you want to go down this route it needs to be watertight and it looks like the rules aren't. That is probably how City get off rather than the PL allowing them to.

They will appeal, and only the fine will remain.

I'll wait to see what the league actually says about it, but unless it's accompanied by some consensus on harsher penalties for all present and future offences, it's setting a very weak rule that invites abuse. And the fine had best be huge and count against PSR.

JazzG The rules are fine it's just that they don't have the balls to enforce them. Same thing as City / PSG with UEFA years ago. Miguel Delaney's recent book explains this very well.

It's been clear for a long time the premier League are not fit for purpose to govern themselves and some of the noise around these case was that the rules were badly drafted so I'm sure there room to argue away any serious penalty. They have no interest in creating a fair system is why if they really want governance it should be from an independent regulator . But none of the clubs really want that because they don't really care about this stuff.

Gurgen I'll have a read of that, remember a year or so back reading that some of the rules City are confident won't hold up in court but interested to read more about it.
