United would take at least 3 years to get their house in order and they'd have to have the right man for that. That wont be happening any time soon. Chelsea are going to turn into perennial CL hopefuls. Spurs are nothing. Newcastle had a plan but P&S has slowed that down. Villa will have the same issues as Newcastle. Only Liverpool could get to our level any time soon and that would require ~~Dr. Evil~~ Arne Slot hitting the ground running and turning out to be one of the best coaches in the game.

Its us and City again next year.

I think other teams improving might actually help us at this point, rather than hurt us. Game-raising bastards might not roll over for City every week if their baseline was halfway decent.

If Arteta doesn’t win a trophy next season he and we will be under HUGE pressure, potential or no potential. You can’t go 5 years without a trophy at this club - well you can unless you’ve got cash in the bank (Wenger).

Sicario2 - Tier 1 come on. Go look at our performance this season in historical context of every club that ever competed for a premier league. Look at how we compared to the rest of the league, from Liverpool down. This is a great season. Don’t let City bend your mind.

Sicario2 - Tier 1 Arteta's job is arguably the safest in world football, give me a break. His mission isn't to win more tinpot cups, but to get back on top of the Premier League and finally win us a Champions League. He hasn't gotten there yet, but he has completely transformed the club. We will be kissing his feet to get every possible season out of him before his tenure eventually ends here.

It depends, if we push City until the end and finish a couple points off the title then you 100% give him your backing. No guarantee anyone else out there would come in and be able to take it further.

Sicario2 - Tier 1 we've already normalised that. We've never been a club that win trophies season after season. I get the desire to have high standards but we also have no god-given right to expect trophies.

When you're up against a fucking country backed football club you can't apply those kind of standards. Every single one of their transfers could be dodgy and there is no way of verifying it.

I don't care too much about cups, we won FA cups under Wenger while looking hopeless in the league. We need to keep the pressure on City and eventually they'll crack. I think they can feel it as well. The media aren't doing their usual writing us off, they can all feel what is coming.

I forgot you are the one that doesn’t mind going trophyless :-)

For me I get a lot of stick from rival fans when they say Arteta has spent £700m and only won one fa cup in 5 years. Need a trophy or two to shut them up. This is personal.

They say no one remembers 2nd place and unfortunately they are semi-right.

Sicario2 - Tier 1 sure, it can't go on forever. The main thing for me is to see progress and we're very much doing that. At this point, I am now hoping (expecting?) us to win a trophy next season but I know football isn't that simple. We're currently very reliant on some of our first team players being readily available for every game and I would have serious concerns if any of them were out for a sustained period next season. Don't want to make this into a squad rotation chat though!

I’m in a few WhatsApp groups with friends/fantasy football and it can be constant. The good thing is majority are Chelsea, Spurs and Utd fans so I can give good ammunition back :-)

Sicario is sort of right here. He has to win something eventually and every year that pressure builds. He has an FA cup already which I think a lot of people forget.
