JazzG If the manager had any balls, stick Walker LB, Trent RB and watch the team perform.
Probably better than having Trippier in the team but I'm not convinced that'd really fix that much.
If Mainoo stays in the team I think England may retain ball better but they'll still have difficulty playing from the back through midfield with either setup.
.............................. Kane
............... Bellingham.......... Foden
Saka...................................................... Palmer
............ ..... Rice................. Mainoo
....... Guehi............ Stones............. Walker
Technically Saka is a 'LB' here but that's only when England lose possession (and it could just as easily be Rice dropping in at CB and Bellingham dropping into CM to form two banks of 4). This'd be a better shape for building attacks than what England have at the mo, which is honestly something like:
.............................. Kane
....................... Bellingham.....................Saka
...............Foden..........Mainoo..........
Trippier ........... ..... Rice.................... Walker
................. Guehi............ Stones.............
I guess the priority for Southgate is being secure at the back but in build up Trippier, Rice and Walker are very lacking in progression.
