We are a much better team with Havertz up front than with Havertz in midfield.

RowJimmy but if we had the option of playing someone like Osimhen or Gyokeres upfront whilst he’s in midfield we’d be just as good if not better.

Anyways I think Merino is being brought in to give us some of what Havertz offers in midfield

lorddulaarsenal our midfield was horrible with Rice and Havertz in it together. As soon as Havertz moved up from we got the best out of him and the team went up a level.

Qwiss we didn't have enough on the ball presence with the two of them. If you look at City at their best in the last 2 years, it was with KDB, Gundogan and Rodri - 3 players who are ball protagnists. They can all pass and beat a man on the ball. In our case, Declan likes to run with the ball and Kai is an off the ball player. The player who can (theoretically if sick) get the most from these two player archetypes would be Partey as he can pass to them.

I would like a Gundogan or Rodri style player in the midfield this summer. And then we will dominate midfield

It was horrible, until it wasn't. Some of our best performances came with Havertz playing from midfield and interchanging with Trossard as a false 9/midfield double act.

But I do agree that we need another on the ball protagonist. Merino isn't that guy.

Best options are Frenkie & Zubimendi, looks like Frenkie doesn't want to move and Zubimendi doesn't want to leave Spain. So it is important we move on quickly.

Merino's 28 - he's a good 4 years younger and should be in his prime.

Guimaraes is barely 14 months younger

Ah, I'm surprised Guimaraes is turning 27 in November. He's managed to look younger despite the hatefulness and bile that consumes him.

seen some more rumours from Spain that we're in talks for merino. he looks a good player, but i have some concerns avout how he'd fit next to rice. he looks like he'd thrive in the role xhaka had, but that would see rice moved back to the 6, which I'm not a big fan of

Gotta say Calafiori and Merino seem like decent signings but they're not very exciting and I don't really see them changing a whole lot.

Qwiss Maybe so but they do go imo a long way in addressing two problems in the first team and means we haven't spent crazy money in doing it. If a big player becomes available gives us financial headroom to make a move.

Calafiori much more in line with our policy of under 25 players whereas Merino seems more a short term solution until we find a long term solution. The right way to do things, if you can't get the players you want make sure we don't get left short. Keep our powder dry and make sure if the right player does become available we make a move.

Qwiss they're solid buys, but if we get an absolute killer LW, then all of a sudden our left side looks excellent
