QuincyAbeyie My own personal theory is that this market was stunted due to two factors- the Euros/Copa America delaying moves for basically the entirety of July with a few exceptions and then Mbappe leaving PSG for free and not having an influx of cash into the market that could have potentially created a domino effect.
Specific to our targets, we have already heard that the idea behind Sesko signing a new deal with Leipzig was to get another year of development there and then that they have an agreement with the club that if he decides to leave next summer, the club will facilitate a reasonable departure. We have no idea if Nico will be more apt to move next year but the chances of that are certainly greater than this year. Same with Isak - if Newcastle were to miss out on UCL next year again, it isn't hard to imagine being able to turn his head towards a more successful project. We also know Wirtz is potentially going to be available next summer as per his plan with his father. There are other potential targets like Leao and Kvara that were not on the market this summer but it's not hard to imagine them looking for better projects if there was an opportunity.
I just think that it was a crap market for wingers and attackers this summer and highly doubt that we would have two of those years in a row personally. I could be wrong but I also think we will handle our business early next summer once we have a good idea of needs in January, like we did with Rice last summer.
