samthegooner Seems like all the journalists were briefed on Nico still being our #1 target this morning. Still feels like a fool's errand given all of the positivity around Bilbao, him getting the #10 shirt and being front and center in all of their promos. Stranger things have happened of course but hard to imagine circumstances that would lead to him completely reversing course over the last week of the window, especially given how much Bilbao has done for him and his family.

Could be laying the groundwork for a transfer next summer as well tbf

I do think there is truth to the theory that Edu and Arteta would not be continuing to try for Nico if they weren't hearing at least some positive feedback. That's not to say this will happen but I sincerely doubt we would still have him as a target if he had already rejected us. Its the hope that kills you...

Why should we try Nico? 3 reasons.
1) we need bodies in attack. Simple.
2) Nico cuts into the centre of the field, which Martinelli doesn’t do enough.
3) speed and beating men off the dribble.

He’s basically like a fully developed, technically secure Martinelli. Holds the width, takes his man on, knows how to combine and move and is a supreme athlete.

Is basically sure thing in the right environment and is made for our system.

I say this is someone who’s not really excited by any other links.

samthegooner thanks mate. Appreciate the detailed summary. That does help visualise what he could bring to the team. I guess in my head, I'm still pining for a Sanchez 2.0 in terms of our next marquee forward signing and what they can do to create something out of nothing and I can't see that with Nico; but as you and goon say, he's tailor-made for the way we play and brings pace (which we lack). I still wonder whether that's enough against a team like Newcastle or on those days where we seem to be really slow to move the ball forwards...

Sicario2 - Tier 1 for what it's worth, I did watch that match and didn't notice anything that awe-inspiring (goal was well taken) but then maybe I was too focused on how turgid England were.

Qwiss I'd be on board for kvara as a marquee signing too. a kvara, merino, timber/calafiori left side would be devilish

Kvara would put the UCL title on the menu in my opinion. Lots of rumors right now around Nico but probably just “ITK”s running with the same half rumors.

Don Pacifico I think if we are going for a Sanchez type signing, Kvaratskhelia is the guy. He'd be my #1 pick regardless with his combo of age, technical ability and production.

I also thing with Nico it's about building our threat to often teams have been able to block our right and it can impact our attacking threat as they don't have to focus on the left really as much. But a player like Nico on the left and they really would have to watch that as well which just creates more attacking options to hurt opponents in my view and takes some focus off Saka.

Claudius you just know he's about to make that leap where he goes from world class to unstoppable force of nature in the next year or two. He has seen and sussed out most defensive set ups and knows how to be efficient and make the most impactful decisions in the final third.

Ladies and gents we have a beastly player in the making.

They needed to sell him previously but chosen to offload Minteh+Anderson for 70m++

Supposedly our short list is:
Nico Williams
Anthony Gordon
Simon Adingra
Johan Bakayoko
Donyell Malen

I’d be very happy with Nico or Gordon of course. Adingra or Bakayoko as backups would intrigue me too provided the price is somewhat reasonable. Not a fan of Malen personally.

Sicario2 - Tier 1 Struggling to find where I saw this. So I'd chalk it up to hearsay if we aren't seeing more rumors.

Really just hope we can bring in someone who is confident in attacking their man 1v1, has some end product and potential to develop. Adingra, Bakayoko, Diao all are intriguing but really hope that Arteta/Edu have a rabbit in their hat with a Sane/Nico/Gordon type signing. I still feel as though Martinelli's struggles are half confidence/half situation he's in with the left side dynamics but it would be really nice to have someone we could throw on in the interim that can add some real threat to the left side.
