Second half our players looked flat and physically not up to it. Tactical changes did not work as well. He should have gone with Partey in the middle and Havertz up top. The balance wasn’t right for this game imo.

Exactly what I predicted pre match. We really needed more changes and fresh legs.

Mikel's game management and squad management more or less meant a game that was there for us to be won became a game that we were fighting not to lose. Deja Vu as last year against Southampton.

You don't win titles if you need every moment to go your way. You need to create more moments. We'd a ton of luck in this game anyway with them hitting the woodwork twice in the narrowest of ways.

Obviously I am very disappointed to surrender the title so meekly and that we have completely been outplayed. But tbh since the West Ham lost I told myself if we win the title this year it would be a miracle.

I think the CL is a much more realistic proposition for us. But by playing almost all the first teamers today till the point you can tell the entire team hardly had legs to compete against Villa in the 2nd half, I also don't have high hopes in Munich now.

Qwiss We are in a title race where we have won 10 out of our last 12 games and suddenly find ourselves behind. I'd argue in those kind of situations you need every moment to count when margins are that fine.

I agree we had some luck with them hitting the woodwork but if he scores we go into half time 1-0 ahead and I think we have the mentality to see it out. Physically we looked shot out there.

Lukazan Maybe so but going into half time with 1-0 I'd back us to dig in and see the game out. The longer the game went on the more tired we got and clearly didn't have it in us to find something. First half wasn't even that bad but second half you could see unless we made some inspired substitution which flipped the game on its head we could see what direction the game was headed in.

daredevil The CM situation has caught up with us in the end. We've looked a hell of a lot better with Jorginho in the middle but he hasn't got it in him to play twice a week. I don't know why Partey wasn't started, considering he played against Luton surely his fitness allows him to play at least 60 mins this match?

Coombs I do agree there, but we had many matches where we could rotate him and we didn't. It has caught up with us.

White could barely run once the 2nd half started, we should have started Tomi etc.

Basically too little rotation, lack of freshness. When we lack that little bit of sharpness, the predictability becomes an issue for opponents to easily counter our tactics.

Even I don't have much positive to say about that.

Credit Villa who defended excellently, especially their cartel member at centre back. We had chances we should have taken in the first half and they would have given us the right to play the game we wanted to, but we just seemed a little off, blunt, from the first whistle and then I think we could all see the second half denouement coming. Villa were excellent in that second half and we had no answer to them. The players looked dead and Bayern on Wednesday feels like it'll be a game too far for us now.

Difficult to see anything other than a City procession now, whilst the effect of this game is such that I've gone from thinking we'll beat everyone to worrying about every game we have left. Except the one against Manchester United, we'll definitely win that one. 😆

2nd or 3rd doesn't really matter IMO. Hope our players realises that, gives up the league and go all out for the CL. We are 3 matches away from the final for that. We could even do our forte and defends all the way for penalties like Croatia at World Cups.

Devastating result, really poor to fall away again due to our own lack of quality. The questions I had about whether we could produce the consistency of performance in the run in very much came through here. These are the questions everyone will pose to Arsenal untill we get through to the end of a season and win.

Our way of playing is so tightly set up that it requires near faultless execution which gives very fine margins to win and if our attack has a day like today we just don't create enough to counter the lack of clinical finishing.

For all the good things the team has done 2 defeats to villa and no win against Fulham is not the outcomes likely to win a title. We know what it's like up against City, we got taught the lesson last year you can't afford to drop these points you have to be close to faultless. Even a city who have looked far from their best level are still so relentless in the run in.
