That's exactly how we scored. In fact, I'd say he needs to keep doing it, because teams are crowding him out from cutting in and shooting now. So needs to keep that varied threat.

The fact that he can go to either side comfortably already shows that he will be able to adapt to other positions. I think he'd even be able to play LW for us if needed. I'd be interested in seeing a Martinelli - Nwaneri - Saka frontline but also feel like it might be missing a focal point to hold the ball up. Will be very interesting to see how our squad health looks for the potential Madrid ties. I have a feeling Saka isn't going to be fit for them unfortunately but hopefully we can have Martinelli back to add some pace to our counters.

Robben didn't just have one move. He was not predictable. His inside cuts were lethal, but he could also go outside - as he often did. He'd open his body towards the defender and see what the defender gave him, outside or the inside. Similar to all the best dribblers.

Nwaneri's shot and goals numbers (small sample) are incredibly impressive. Same shots as Lamine and much higher goals. The kid makes himself shots with an ease and frequency that only Saka can match/better on our team

lorddulaarsenal sometimes you can just tell when a player has something extra. like I knew garncaho was fugazi was from day one, because you would see warning signs that he was a one-note huckster. I don't see that with nwanners

Im optimistically cautious with Nwanners. We had another player a while ago that had 'something extra' and he turned out to be a perma crock and retired early. (Wilshere). Hopefully Ethan is made of sterner stuff.

Wilshere's career ended early because he was dumb as a fucking rock when it came to tackling/ riding tackles.

Claudius I think I said it here at the time, but I knew someone who knew Jack and, particularly, Jack's security guy. He told me Jack's ankle was fucked well before Arsenal ended up having to let him go because he just couldn't get over it. It's the only time I've ever had a bit of ITK information, I wish I hadn't.

But yeah, Flobs is being a bit harsh but he's also basically right.

Kel Varnsen that's fair, but I still find it odd to say that Nwaneri is too predictable with going to his right when his "trademark move" so far is probably cutting in to the left and curling it in the farthest corner. That he's going on the outside to his weaker foot as well is only a good thing the way I see it.

RocktheCasbah thanks. I had / have no insider knowledge of course. Just, you know, watch a player in certain situations enough times, and you get to understand their mentality. When it came to tackling it was clear wilshere always was more interested in getting "stuck in" even when there was no benefit in doing so. That's a recipe for a brief career.

Back to Nwaneri he'll get lumped for sure. Premier league allows far too much physicality. I hope he is able to get a bit of sympathy/protection from the refs, but they tend to let things slide when it comes to Arsenal, let alone black kids at Arsenal.

Yes, it was part of Jack's game, of course. But just like they've done with Saka, Ethan is coming to the attention of other teams after this season. Saka burst onto the scene, he was an unknown quantity to opposition..... Until they figured out to just hack him and lump him all the time. The same will happen with Ethan. The one difference is that Ethan looks a bit stronger in his body than Saka did when he first started out. But Ethan will also become the focus of harsh tackles and rough play in the upcoming season(s).

Bring Back Kerrea Gilbert yeah, definitely could have been. From memory, it was one of the early ones he got and he could never quite recover properly from it. It's really sad because, despite my frustrations with how he seemed to live his life, the thing that really stopped him achieving - and therefore damaged us - was the injuries.

RocktheCasbah one of my biggest regrets as a fan. His potential had no limits. Yeah he got a bad injury in preseason 2011 I think, was it for England perhaps?
