As much as the Saka injury sucks, the bright side is it will accelerate this player’s development in a safer part of the field. Even as a winge, he liked to come in to link with Odegaard and co. Once Timber learns this pattern, he can exploit width.

You have more freedom to make mistakes, yes, but Ethan's present weaknesses in his game get amplified in the middle too. More of a chance to lose the ball if you hold onto it too long there.

It's why I'm not worried that the injury to Saka may make him lose his pace. The guy has no weaknesses and could easily play in Ode's position.

It’s a fantastic opportunity for him. You get punished badly in the middle. Odegaard is our best player in Saka’s absence. He lost the ball versus Brentford and 5 seconds later we were 1-0 down. Your pressing, passing and movement responsibilities are so much higher. Even a Spain starter like Merino is taking time to adapt.

The promising thing about Nwaneri is that like many youngsters, the competition for him when he was 14–15 was because of his exceptional technical aptitude, but at 17 he's already massed out to the level of an extremely physically demanding league.

Bit like Saka, who of course is technically brilliant, except he's a technical freak up there with the likes of Wilshere. He could surge to an extraordinary level with us in the next two or three years if he can keep his fitness.

What do we think is going to be his best position?

Because if it’s RW it’s going to be a bit of a problem if he’s going to be as good as we think he is…

I think we have to primarily develop him as a Bernardo Silva styled left 8. It’s the clearest pathway to being a starter, but it’s a departure from the Xhaka/Kai/Rice/Merino styled box crashing duel monster.

The advantage is if you’re looking for someone to combine with Martinelli who can also drift wide and let Gabi drift in, he’d be perfect for that given his comfort on the wing. I’d love to see it at some point this season, Arteta must be tempted.
