jorgi is great at the momebt, but dont forget he's also playing for his final contract, whether here or somewhere else. I'm always wary about doubling down on older guys going into their last year who are playing out of their skin.

what its really driven home is that rice is now playing where he should be - as a roving 6.5/8 next to a pass master pivot (zubimendi looks like jorgi junior tbh). he's a demon at leading the press. his timing and anticipation is excellent. he has the awareness to slot in as a double pivot, or drive forward as the game requires. Give more time to grow in the role and he'll contribute more going forward as well.

Great result and we owed them that big time. The challenges keep coming but so far so good. Momentum coming at the right moment and need to keep putting these fixtures away.

Newcastle pretty quickly realized how naive it was to press Jorginho. Part of that is his skill set, but full credit to Gabriel and Saliba who both were fully tuned in all game to their role in possession and a high line.

Claudius one thing you miss - by having to invert White, you need to push Saliba from being the central centre back to being our right centre back. With Gabriel more central.
I love Gabi, but I would always rather have Saliba as my central centre back and at the heart of play making. These are all Kiwior - related adjustments.

We have been far more solid doing it this way. When you don't concede stupid goals you can concentrate on attack fully. Our xG for the past 7 games is like 1.2 or something, the next best is City on 6.7. It's huge

Our results over Pool and Newcastle this month show how formidable we are. We are controlling games and intimidating teams. It took a while to mature, but the foundation was being built very nicely in the first half of the season. Time to reap.

I was dreading the game pre-match, but I felt overwhelming reassured when I saw Rice, Saliba and Gabriel in the tunnel. Felt like the defensive version of Henry, Bergkamp and Pires.

I thought we lost the title last season because of a porous defence, and I didn't think we would win it any time soon up until some point this season when I saw how miserly our defence has become.

I would be surprised if this trio doesn't deliver a title within the next few years.

Yeah. What we had in the first half of the season was a strong defensive foundation. Easily the best team defensively in the league before Christmas. And now we’ve taken that platform and started adding flair to the attack. But we needed the structure in place first.
