I don't know what is wrong with this team. I don't want to be overly pessimistic but it's missing something and I don't see what or where the difference is going to come from to get us back to where we should be. We have largely the same players as last season, but there's a spark and a bit of life missing in them. I don't think it's all to do with tactics, something has changed in the mentality.

You're right and I'm not sure about the specifics either but I think bringing in and having an actual CF would make the world of difference.

Partey being injured is whats missing and replacing Xhaka with Havertz is another big problems here.

But you're right, the mentality is different. Players don't have that surprise element where we were on top of the table almost impossibly, and riding the good vibes that came with exceeding expectations. There is a hesitancy, fear, whatever you want to call it that bubbles over in some of the players getting inti it with each other at times. Yeah, yesterday it was White and Zinchenko, but I remember another incident this season with our players arguing with one another after the final whistle. Might have included Gabriel and someone else.

Tam I think players like Zinchenko and Jesus raised our floor but now we are trying to push at the elite level and thing toe to toe with a team like city you can see why they were let go. They are decent players in that 15 group but they aren't the ones you count on I don't think. It also applies potentially to other players, Martinelli and Odegaard. They have qualities but I don't think they have quite enough in the creativity aspects.

Zinchenko also is a factor in slowing us down getting the ball and putting his foot on it it's just not a great way of trying to play an offensive game. Ultimately good players but not enough at that higher tier for me. I think Saka is likely in that bracket or can get there but outside of that I'm not sure we have enough.

we're a halfway elite team. our counter-pressing is something else. we put teams in a chokehold better than anyone. lest we forget, we managed to swamp a much-vaunted liverpool for long stretches at anfield only a month or two ago, and had their players and manager puffing their cheeks after the game. having said that, I'm still suspicious if this counter-pressing approach has been overemphasised by arteta, to the point that it has drained our forwards of creativity and confidence over time

I think we need to get over this idea that we need to sign a CF, because the odds of bagging someone that's actually title winning good is so low. You can count the number of world class strikers on a couple fingers.

Everything might look rosy this time next week if we get a good win against Liverpool, but unless a good win acts as real catalyst and ignites something I just don't see that we currently have the ability or desire to keep going and be in with a shout at the title.

Tam We don't have the quality required. Whether it's down to personnel or coaching, our attacking play hasn't been good enough for a year now. One good win here or there doesn't change that.

Bring Back Kerrea Gilbert

Rice instead of Partey and Martinelli instead of "new signing" are what's hampering our unpredictability in this style of play.

We need a bit of a reality check as a fan base, especially one that went through the late Wenger to first season Arteta debacle. We are in our second season of being in the right zone of the table, with a young team.

I’m looking at both the goals for and xG columns for Arsenal, City and Pool, and I honestly don’t feel like our rivals have cracked some magical scoring formula that we have failed to find. We are quite similar. There are small margins keeping us from the top of the table, not a massive, insurmountable mountain. So why all the angst? It feels very disproportionate to the reality

Claudius do you think the betting companies are underestimating Arsenal severely compared to your own assessment? Since they have Arsenal at 9 with Liverpool and City at 3. To me, that screams that it'd be a huge surprise if Arsenal win the title, not that we're only very small margins away from doing so.

Certainly, this statement seems to indicate the opposite - to me, at least.

Claudius okay, so you agree that there are two teams much more likely to win the league than us this season. So your disagreement is more with whether that's a good place to be rather than you thinking we have a better chance than what other people think.

RocktheCasbah he said he agreed with the odds that have both City and Liverpool about 3 times more likely to win the title than us. It's even specifically what I asked about. They're the most objective prediction you can find, so it's weird to act like people who share that sentiment are the overly negative ones rather than those who don't being overly positive.
