Temo to keep up with title winning pace we will need to win about 15/16 games out of the last 19. When you drop points at home against Fulham and West Ham there won't be enough points for you to make up in the 2nd half of the season.

Unless you believe we are winning at Etithad etc. The City machine with KDB back will overpower us easily and then there's Liverpool too.

Clrnc no I just think if liverpool and city have won 12 of their first 19, it's not a foregone conclusion we will end up needing to be much better than we've been in the first 19 games.

This was a weird game where West Ham got lucky with the first goal, and scored from a set piece. We had a bunch of real chances, too. Yes, we were mostly shit, but this is what we see most weeks, just this time the fine margins didn't go our way. There was a bit of complacency too, after the first 10 minutes, I think most the players just assumed we were going to steam roll them

Qwiss xhaka contributed things that helped the team wholistically, in both directions. protected zinchenko, and provided spacing and chances for martinelli. havertz is a bit of a taker tbh. he runs around on defense but often leaves zinchenko in the lurch, and largely needs to be supplied by others in order to do anything up front. artetas system is so heavily based on the synergy of interlocking roles and responsibilities, ans that signing has taken a slash in the synergy soup

The whole front line is toothless. They all take 5 touches too many and try cute shit instead of putting their boots through the fucking ball. That's why Eddie can come on and look decent, he's just one touch one kick guy.

The team is predictable beyond belief. I'm shocked we don't lose more games. If it wasn't for corners, I'm sure we'd have quite a few more draws and losses.

In games like this where the team gets a lucky goal or two then shut down, I have little faith in us making a comeback. Jesus can't score to save his life, Saka gets double teamed, Martinelli dribbles into cul-de-sacs, Odegaard dances around and Rice plays too conservative.

Gabriel "goals are not my strong point" Jesus is a chaos factor but not someone you can depend on the entire season to win you matches in clutch moments.

It's no surprise we have 77 touches in the box, most ever without winning since Opta started collecting stats. West Ham just allow us to keep doing that and defend the middle. Easy

Temo because being tied with city at this stage is basically a death sentence. we won't survive a sprint to the finish against them. they've probably had their seasonal wobble already

Gazza M yep, We've seen a few references to us just unlucky but we've seen a few games where we have had control but no cutting edge so we can't score the killer blow and then get sucker punched. Even that Brighton game which was one of our best performances we left until late to settle because we couldn't turn the control and dominance into goals. We struggle scoring from open play because our attack too predictable and lacks any imagination of variability. Our top scorer is on 5 goals at the half way point of the season. None of these things are new or one off they've been in the team throughout the season.

Saka and Martinelli who performed exceptionally and maybe outperformed last season have dipped and we have no plan to deal with that or squad depth to help.

I don’t really know how to analyse a game like that, other than it frustrated the hell out of me.

On a side note, our atmosphere this season is so disappointing. It’s gone from one of the best in the league to one of the worst overnight. There’s no way that’s solely down to heightened expectations. The clubs made a mess of the ticketing system.

We created 2.73xG today and did more than enough to score. There’s just no conviction to our shots. We are wasteful and we know it.

I’ve no idea what’s happened to our defensive set pieces. We’ve got such a big team it just doesn’t feel like it’s something that should be happening.

77 touches in the box and all the xg in the world and the only stat that matters is actual goals. 50% of those touches shouldn't have existed, just take a shot next time

The main problem last night was offensive rather than defensive I think. WH created very little I can recall.

So I'm in agreement that something has to be done there but I don't get why (seemingly) everyone thinks Toney is the solution...?

Toney might be available, and by all reports has been pushing to join us. It's January. It's not like we have tons and tons of options right now.

flobaba I dunno but he's certainly not the only available striker out there. Toney hasn't played competitive football for 7 months and will have a heavily inflated price tag attached to him in Jan. Doesn't make sense to me - we have to buy smarter, particularly if we're bringing someone in in January.
