Bernard Woolley i think there was a chance of England getting 5 qualifying spots, but United and Newcastle fucked it. Not that we need to worry about that.

Bernard Woolley 36 teams. A league phase. You play 8 different teams 4 home, 4 away (more games). Places 1-8 in league go straight to round of 16. 9 to 24 play a knockout (teams 9-16 seeded). Winners of them ties face the 8 seeded from league in the round of 16.

England still have a strong chance of getting the extra 5th place slot too apparently lol.

Burnwinter and also, the logic of "I'd fancy us to best them so I don't want to avoid them" is highly flawed. If you have a 60 % of winning a tie then you'd fancy us to take it, but the chance of winning a 60 % tie in every CL round to win it is still 13 %, so I'd like to maximize our chances.

QuincyAbeyie One hundred per cent. I'm secretly glad we couldn't draw Barcelona in the round of 16, Europe is a crapshoot, the refs are bent and the hoodoo of some opponents and away grounds is perfectly real. And difficult midweek opposition also hits us in the league.

Depends on how far the remaining teams go. Currently the likes of Italy and Spain are ahead. The idea that we could help Tottenham or United get a CL spot isn’t very nice.

Very good draw, no real excuses not to progress and given a good draw I would hope we might get to the semis as a minimum
